Tracker - Superb Service
Discussion
My car is in westover for a shopping list of jobs. I saw her last night (hospital visit) and she is off the ground.
I just got a call from tracker telling me the car is being moved and was it being moved with my permission. I explained the situation to tracker, but confirmed with the body shop and after checking, the car has been mover around the workshop. I knew before the workshop manager did.
When I first had the car it developed an ignition fault and was put on a car transporter to go to the garage. Befort the car had got 50 yards down the road, tracker had called e to ask if everything was OK.
These guys are superb and if the car is stolen, I have no doubt they will find it.
Very impressed.

They are very good indeed and would recommend them over Trackstar. When we had the Porsche it had to be taken away on a transporter. The truck arrived so quickly we didn't have a chance to call Tracker and after it left we spent some time outside chatting to a neighbour.
Anyway to cut a long story short, we noticed we had a few missed calls (they had tried 3 numbers) and because we hadn't answered the Police persued the truck as it headed to Bristol.

If is moves without the engine on or a key in the ignition that it is an alert and they call you. If it is nicked and the thief has managed to obtain the keys, then you call tracker and they can "track" the car and get the police to it asap.
I wouldnt have expected the thing to work in the metal hanger that is the bodyshop. It even works in the concrete bunker that is my garage. I am impressed.
I am going to get a key safe. Make sure access to keys is as hard as possible. Up untill now the keys are safe because not even I know where I have thrown them. If I dont know, how can a thief?.

Had Tracker on my first two and yes, they are very good at calling when the car is moved without the key in the ignition. Haven't got it on the new car as the incidence of Lotus thefts is very low and those that I've heard about were all by stolen keys so the sort of Tracker I had wouldn't have worked. Believe there's a more advanced one now but still question if it's worth the cost.
EDIT: btw was quoted £50 or so to have the system's battery checked so a few days later moved the car a few feet got the call and had it done for free!

There are some really advanced oned that not only issue a short range beacon but also use GPS and GPRS and these can be used world wide. Far more expensive though.
Really cut down insurance costs, in fact I could only get insurance if I had a tracker fitted.
I had the Tracker Monitor system fitted to mine, insurance requirement, you can have a Tracker Retrieve but this only tells Police where it is when it is reported stolen so they may find it ragged and burnt out anywhere (and probably won't satisfy your insurance requirments). The Monitor system lets Tracker know when it is moved without the ignition on. Cost of installation was £380 (shop around) and its £109 PA for the service...or you can pay a one off fee of £300. A good thing to have for piece of mind. Would advise anyone buying an Elise to check its fitted, if not, negociate with the price of the car.

I've often wondered though - if my car was nicked, would I want it back?! I mean it would never be the same again?!
If they know before it get to the end of the road then it is more borrowed than nicked!. Lotuses will be stolen to order, not usually joyriders. If it is stolen to order they are professional and will not want to damage the car (lower profits).
I would argue that you would want it back. Also if you are car jacked, you have the luxury of being able to give up the car then just phone police and tracker. They will get the bar steward and return your beauty.
At the very least, I would like a small "discussion" with the thief.
I've just had an I-Mob system fitted to my Cayman. Far superior to the Tracker systems. If the car is set to a certain mode, the car will call your mobile if the car is moved, jacked up or driven, with or without the vehicle keys. You can also immobilise the car remotely. Superb system! Cost £649 plus £175 per year subs. It knocked about £50 more off the premium compared to any Tracker system.
I've not had any such thing happen for me! I've had it unplugged and plugged in elsewhere and nothing. It's been trailered to my home from the workshop, and no call!
Maybe I need to call them to verify it's still working???
Glad to hear they do work for you though, gives me more confidence in them.
