O Winston Link
Discussion
Just watched a documentatary about photographer O Winston Link and the bizarre story about the break down of his marriage. Sounds like both side were at fault in some way or other and zealous lawyers and the DA seem to have blown everything out of proportion.
Anyway I had not seen any of his work before and found it facinating, he must have spent ages lighting the shots and waiting with models in place for the trains to come along. Particularly like these two...

He did spend ages lighting those shots...
...and what cracking shots they are.
I did see a documentary a few years ago where an assistant and, maybe himself (he died in 2001), found a few boxes full of old flash bulbs that he used, the last reaming in the world. They decided to set up a shot for the last time and spent ages rigging lights along the length of a train and syncing them all up with leads.
They waited until the appointed time and, for the last time, with great anticipation, opened the shutter, pressed the button to fire the bulbs.... It worked, a tremendous FLASH..... only trouble was.... no had had removed the darkslide in the camera to expose the film. It was really quite heart breaking.

I bought my dad the picture of the steam train at the drive in movies a couple of years ago. My dad being a very keen photographer and steam train fan was very pleased with it, The picture now has pride of place in the lounge, mind you it cost me more to get it framed than it did to buy the print, which had to come from the USA.
