Trackday tyres for 993RS

Planning to use my RS for trackdays and occasional dry weekends only this year. Which tyres should I get? I don't care how fast they wear out or if they are hopeless in wet, I just want ultimate performance on a dry track.

If you are going to trailer your car to the track: Slicks
If you are NOT going to trailer your car to the track: Michelin Pilot Sports Cup

I tried both of these tyre alternatives last year so for this year I will get use of that old Thule roof rack which has been lying about in the garage since I from now on wil be bringing an extra set of wheels to the track with slicks.

Have to agree, Pilot Sport Cups are the mutts nuts if you need road use as well

Sport cups very good, as are supercorsa's, a lot of 911's seem to be on Dunlops-very good value, cups and corsa's dodgy in the wet

Dunlop SSR have been out of production for a year and many if not all of the sizes for a 993 RS are unobtainable.

I have run Dunlop DO1J's for the last 4/5 years.
They are road legal and not too bad in the wet but on track they are the mutts!!
(I've a picture of my 993RS lifting inside wheel at Camp Corner, Castle Coombe using these Dunlops but how do I post it here??)

Definitly rate them for track and good value too.

I'm another vote for the Dunlop DO1Js. They're cheaper to buy , last longer, better under braking and turn in than MPSCs at the expense of marginaly less grip on cornering and a tendancy to overheat slightly when pushed hard for long sessions on the track and they look like they belong on a tractor.

I've a set of rims with MPSCs and a set with DO1Js and the dunlops are always the ones on the car.

I'm going to get a set of 2002 Carrera 18" alloys for my 993 as per the fantastic photo above - given that I have a set of 17" on winter tyres on it at the mo, I can justify sticky rubber on the summer wheels - are Pilot Cups the only option for the 18 inch Porsche-rated tyres?? They seem awfully expensive.

I can't see the Dunlop D01J fitment for 18" porsche wheels on their website.

I have a set of D01J's for my 993RS (not on rims at the moment). From memory the fronts are 235 rather than 225, but they fit fine.

They do a 265/35/18 (if 18's are what you want) and the DO1J's are quite a 'wide' tread.

There is a large variance is measured width between manufacturers.

Excellent behaviour...you're a braver man than me! I've been there a couple of times in my RS and shudder to think what speed you must be doing to lift that wheel?!
