Manual or manuell?

Is it normal for the temperature/fan control on a UK 996 (1998) to come up as 'manuell' (or something similar) rather than 'manual'? Probably a dumb question but it has always bothered me.

Surely the Germans don't use such a simple word to mean "manual".

Isn't there something along the lines of "Vorkinityahselvemitpressingoftbuttons" that means the same thing?

Exactly the same thing used to bother me very much as a kid - how on german cars the clocks had 'QUARZ' on them, whereas I knew that it was actually spelt 'Quartz'. Took me a fair amount of time to work out why, since my old man never knew
