Le Mans Basic Info....
Discussion
New to the Le Mans trip event and attempting to organise it this year.
Getting a small convoy together comprising:
VX220
Williams 3
My golf VR6
One of my friends parents have a cottage in Brittany, so inital plan was to ferry over to Cherbourg and stop over in brittany friday night with an early start to get over in time for the race start.
Anyway i know there's a big number of you that go every year so wondered if anyone with a lot more knowledge on the matter can give me any basic info like:
Easiest route and ferry
Where to buy tickets from (for le mans and ferry and camping sat night)
Where best to camp @ Le Mans
Any help would be great so thanks in advance...

I'd recommend taking a ferry from the Dover end of the country, rather than the longer mid-channel routes. Speedferries are good value but all the operators have deals going this time of year...
You can get tickets direct from the ACO who organise the event : www.lemans.org : they only have a few left (only bleu nord and beausejour according to the letter I received today) but will be the cheapest option.
Otherwise you will have to buy from the likes of MRI, Page&Moy, JustTickets or Airtrack. They might insist you buy everything from them at a hefty mark-up. (including entry tickets that are available on the gate)
If you are just going for the weekend you could also just sleep in the car for nothing
I'd recommend getting a set of camping bleu ticket from the ACO (€45 x3) and buying the right number of entry tickets (c.€50) on the gate when you get there. Use this year as a recce to get the feel of the place, as if you are anything like our group was, you'll be hooked and want to come for the whole week next year.

You'd be missing the Friday night parties, parade and general madness
If you can, try to get there for Thursday, that gives you a chance to settle in, see the qualifying that evening, then you can enjoy Friday, walk the pits and drive the road section part of the circuit, then on Saturday sober up and enjoy the race.
Here's some well worn Q&A's & opinon thread about LM camping:

And to confirm Thursday departure certainly makes sense!
as this thread mentions :

My group have booked with MRI & Camp Houx as per last year (and years before!)
P.s. Nice to see another VR6 making the trip!

You could do worse than have a look at www.beermountain.com for their "Virgins Guide" to LeMans for all the low down you`ll need!
