Have any of you lot ever lived in Geneva...? I plan to go and spend some significant time there on completion of my MBA and any opinions on what you thoughts was good / bad / indifferent etc would be appreciated. Big move for me, but I am really looking forward to it.

On a slight tangent, I will be taking an internship this summer as a part of my MBA, likely to be finance based - pointers to companies with offices in Geneva would be great. I have done a bunch of research but it seems (unsurprisingly) that most the finance houses are Zurich based. Bar that, an inroad / foot in the door / contact at a London based institution would be greatly appreciated.

As a total aside, would it be feasible to take the RS500 out there with me...? I am not sure what the deal is for getting a car in there. Looking after it won't be a problem courtesy of Herr Eggenberger in Lyss, it's more the getting it into the country and registered etc.

Any info on the above or Switzerland in general appreciated...!

Thanks in advance,

Roop

Loved it. You could see when there was enough snow on Jura (col de la faucile) to go skiing.

I lived in a small village called Menier just beyond Vesenaz, and it was lovely. Admittedily the company paid for the rent, otherwise we would have been in a flat. The cost of living is high, but then they do have a public services that work and it is very clean (once the slush has cleared in the spring).

I was in Villars sur Ollon for a while - small skiing village up in the mountains. Best thing about the hills around this area of Lake Geneva are the roads - absolutely amazing.

If I were you I'd sell the RS500 and get something over there. Pretty much everyone has either an Audi Quattro or the BMW / MB equivalents round those parts as, come the winter, 4wd and snow chains are the only way you'll get anywhere!

Cost of living may be high, but I understand the Swiss are some of the most well paid in Europe.

You could always stay in Ferney Voltaire and just pop across the border each day, cost of living would be a lot less.

Also if you do spend time there go on a visitors day around CERN, fantastic place.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone, some interesting info coming out and it's much appreciated. Regards the RS Paulie, it will still be very much a second car for fine, dry summer use only. I will pick up something more suitable as a daily hack.

Don't put platic in your paper bin or paper in your plastic bin or tin in your paper bin......

Your neighbour will tip off the rubbish police, who will promptly duff you up with a frozen Toblerone......

Knew someone who was renting a terraced house in Geneva in the late 80's....£20k pa!
