I have just started my build but already want to modify it.
The lower section of the rear bulkhead is skinned inside the cockpit and can be double skinned.
If my reading of the build, and the various pictures I can access, is correct it looks like the rest of the bulkhead is one skin of GRP with possibly carpet on the inside.
Has anybody Ali skinned this section on the cockpit side? Can anybody see why not? You can also include up to an inch of insulation if you wished.
The only thing I will have to do is form a pocket in the skin around the seat belt mounts.
I have not bought the skin kit so can produce any size panel I wish.
Any thoughts?

Steve - don't really see why not. I think it's just an aesthetic thing (I may be wrong!) as you get to see the rollcage for that 'racecar' look. At least you'll save having to buy the bulkead carpet (not in the price list).

I've been thinking about this myself as I want to try and limit the heat/noise from the supercharger. I'm going to cover the engine bay side in heat-reflective fibreglass matting which should help the noise too. But there's nowhere else I can put it.

That said, to my mind the 'stereo' is behind you so why try and deaden it?????

Don't no if this is any use, but at the last factory day I saw a red GTR half build on display which had a full rearbulkhead in aluminium covering the engine bay side of the aluminium and GRP bulkhead. I can't remember exactly, but might be worth giving Richard or Ted a ring.

p.s When I build mine I was on the phone to the factory a lot. I would usually try to sort the problem out myself costing up to a day and one phonecall would sort out everything within 1 or 2 minutes.

Good luck with the build. I found the bodypanelling one of the most satisfying bits of the build. Make sure you take the time you need for this, 'cause you'll be looking at most of the aluminium and your poprivets when your in the car.

Have fun.

Steve D. Yes, I have panelled the whole of the rear bulkhead on the cockpit side in 16g Ally. I also panelled the engine side too. It's a fairly straightforward exercise and does enable you to put some sound deadening material between the 2 skins (if you're so inclined). I used a layer of "Barrier Mat" on the inside face of the cockpit-side skin and then 35mm of fire retardent foam to complete the filling in the sandwich. This makes a big difference to the noise level inside the car. I cut slots in the panel to accommodate the seat belt anchorages and I can release the snap connectors from the eye bolts if I need to. I am in the early stages of building a GTR and am just double skinning the rear bulkhead now, exactly as I have described above. Hope this helps.

Great question. I've also seen builds with ally panel on the engine side of the upper rear bulkhead.

What type of foam insulation may I spray into the double paneled lower rear bulkhead section without making it deform?

I would not use foam if possible but if you have fitted both skins you will have to.
The normal B&Q spray foam should do it. I would suggest clamping timbers across the panel both sides to stop it swelling. You will need to use quite a number of holes to inject, vent & monitor the progress of the fill. When they cavity fill houses they drill all the holes and put sticks in them. They then fill from the bottom. When the sticks start to move in the holes higher up then they know how far the fill has gone. Do the job slowly, inject some then leave it for a few hours as it continues to expand for quite a long time. It also expands better if everything is wet so spray water into the upper holes after each injection.
