Hi All,

Just recently sold my old 69 Mustang and bought a 99 C5, really impressed so far, it is amazing fun to drive and it goes round corners!!

I am thinking about a BB Bullet exhaust, was wondering if anyone has or have heard one in the flesh, apparently THEY are the loudest you can get, which really appeals but dont want the feds giving me a hard time for noise abuse!! Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers

I've a two pipe Borla Stinger on my 99. V Loud, but you get the resonance at 1500-2000 RPM. The Corsa is supposed to eliminate this. Anyway, forget listening to the stereo.

Cheers guys, loud is definitely the way forward, I have heard Borla systems on other cars and they sound really nice, at 600 bucks the BB quad tip is really tempting!! Can never keep the neighbours happy anyway.......

I too have BB Bullets on my Z06, plus a set of LG Long Tube Headers. If you've got fillings, get 'em reinforced. The sound is seriously loud. I had Hooker side pipes on my '79 and thought they were loud. Hah, when I fire up I set car alarms off in my street.
I'll see if I can post a sound file this evening.
I made a mdf divider, covered it with carpet and fitted it between the boot space and cabin and that plus a layer of Dynamat killed off the reasonance.
Having said that, when the beast is wound up to 4,000 rpm plus, the sound is beautiful and everything becomes a blur........

Dynamat - is that a sound proofer? Would like to reduce the cabin road noise and with Borla Stingers I will still be able to enjoy the exhaust

Yes Dynamat is a foil backed, bitumen based product that acts as a damper. There's a company called Koolmat www.koolmat.com/main.htm who sell custom made kits but it's v expensive. I bought a multi-roll of stuff from a company called www.caraudiosecurity.com for about £70 it was enough to cover the rear floor space. It is a dampening material designed for the sadder people in our society who think it's rather amusing to have speakers the size of dustbins in their boot and who need to stop the body panels on their ricers from flexing....
The material doesn't remove the noise, but it effectively eliminates the resonance.

I to have the Borla ''Stinger'' twin tail pipe cat back exhaust (had it for four years now, indeed it does make a nice rumble)& I'm very happy with it. However if you just want loud, Gary Garwood (he of the Kent section of the CCCUK) has a SLP Loudmouth four pipe exhaust system & that my friend is the loudest exhaust I've heard on a C5! Sounds like an expensive speed boat on idle, that deep burble, just before you floor it!!!!!

Possibly not what I need then. Just very very occassionally I detect a low frequency resonance from the Borlas but its not intrusive. What I would like to do is reduce the tyre noise from the rear wheels

Spent all of last night downloading sound clips of all the various exhausts, OH MY GOD the SLP loud mouth sounds just mental!! wow. Got to admit the Boral Stinger sounds amazing too, I use the car everday so have to be realistic about resonance etc but after the sound the Mustang which had with a hand built stainless system I do need something a little bit fruitier than I have at the moment, do like the sound of the B&B PRT system too. Decisions decisions......

The exhaust on my C5 is stainless but has Geiger writted on it, I know the car came from Germany, does this ring any bells?? still too quiet though

Ah... the SLP loudmouth... that is exactly what is fitted to my car plus X pipe.

It's wicked. truly one of the loudest and meanest things i've ever heard on a road car when wound up. Nice burble at low revs too. Bit of resonance at some revs but as mine's a manual I can drive around that. I find it perfectly easy to use on a daily basis - a treat for both me, and my local community every day

Come over to the dark side and buy a loudmouth!

Fitted the Borla Stingers well over a year ago to my daily driver and no complaints about them being too loud when just cruising - just adjust the noise by changing gear.

Now you want loud?? Guy from Holland was at at Le Mans a couple of years ago with a custom job. Extra piping around the mufflers with butterfly valve each side to flow the exhaust either thru the standard exhausts or bypass them. Switch in the cabin controlled the valves. So when the fuzz were around it was a pussycat and when they went, well that's loud.

As per wavey (above) I junked the mufflers and connected straight up to the tailpipes. Luverly.

My old silencer boxes were cut off then flanges welded to the pipes so i can pop the old ones back on if need be, easy peasy..

Mine sailed through the MOT ok. It's leaks they are looking for, not noise, apparently.
