Can anyone advise if it is an easy job to drain some oil from the tank(04 Tam)as I have overfilled it, about 20mm above max.

After the advice I recieved when I panicked over this very thing, I bought a 'Turkey baster' thingie, which you can use to suck up the excess oil.
However, overfilling the dry sump isn't really a prob, as the engine only takes the oil it needs, so no damage can be caused, just 'oil wastage' according to the users manual.

Shirley being a little overfilled is OK since its a dry sumped system. The engine gets the oil it needs pumped into it and the oil tank is just a storage facility for the pump.

After service mine is usually over max on the dipstick then takes an age to go down, then its time for the next service.

Unless you've filled to the brim?

hi its kiefh had to answer this one i did the same, over filled by about 2liters as it is hard to judge the correct level when you are not familier with a speed six (read my other story in this thread under ANYONE KNOW KIEFH thats another story).anyway thought i would drain out the over filled oil from under the car, alloy tank with drain plug would not give in to me and i did not want to break my new toy!missis said she had a syringe in her nurses kit!THATS ANOTHER STORY CHAPS.that will do it i said, have you ever sucked clold thick oil up a 5mm syringe before.i have....took me about 3hours or more, found out the hard way ha ha.still the joys of owning a TVR bring on the summer. Just take the drain plug out of the bottom of the oil tank. If you drain more than required, then you can top up tank back to required level.

I changed the oil on my Tam last week, really is an easy job.

Could you 'baste out' enough to do a full oil change?

Or would it depend on how big a baster you have got....

Andy,

Yeh the drain plug is obvious, it's right at the bottom of the tank, made of steel with a copper washer on it.

You will need to raise on ramps, just so you have anough room to get a spanner or socket on the drain plug.

You will also have to remove the whole air / filter box to get at the oil filter, this again is relativeley straight foward and the oil filter is easily get at able once off. Once oil is drained out of tank and engine / filter, fill here up and put it all back together.

I used the Carlube oil this time, was supprised how cheep it is, £16.00 for 5 ltrs, about a third of the price of a fill with mobil.

Any problems, e-mail me.

John.

Thanks John.

I'll take a look.

I think at the last service there was about £90 on oil. Seems nuts.
