Injection project is going well and Dr Dave has asked me to fit a temp sender in the engine water jacket so the ecu can tell how hot the engine is anybody got any ideas where i can put it ? i have not got anywhere on the inlet manifold and wondered if there is a spot on the block ! SIMON

ive got mine near the thermostat in the inlet manifold. The one for the gauge in the car is screwed into the cylinder head, and there's one either side. Yours may have a blanking plug screwed in it.

You don't want it in the block Simon, it should be the heads or intake manifold, ie at the top of the engine. Where do you have it currently? In realality the ECM will not need to know the exact temperature, it will only use it for controlling warm-up fuel enrichment and possibly timing adjustment. But YOU may want to know the real temperature for peace of mind displayed on your gauge!

Hi Simon

I'd go for fitting it in one of your cylinder heads. It will save messing with your heater hoses. Just remove a blanking plug and fit.

Just drill and tap a new hole in the side of the thermostat housing.

What heads do you have fitted Simon? The blank sizes vary from head to head.

You may have to adapt something as americans don't do much metric!

The head plugs are probably 1/2" NPT - you better check though, may by 3/4" NPT. I have not seen an NPT x metric adapter but they may well exist off the shelf. If not, you can get a suitable male-female NPT reducer, say 1/2" x 1/4" then drill it out and tap for the M12 x 1.5 sender. I have the EFI sender in head, used a 1/2" x 3/8" NPT reducer to get GM sender to fit.

Hi Simon

If its a square drive then you should find that an oil drain plug key will fit it. Even Halfords sell those!

There are different oil drain plug keys, so measure the square in the blanking plug. The Sykes set I have has one that fits mine.

The blanks in Edelbrock Performer RPM heads are 1/2" NPT. I'd do like George says and get a 1/2" to 1/4" NPT adapter and tap it to M12 x 1.5mm. You can get NPT to metric adapters but I don't think you will do it in one step, you you end up with two adapters which is not great.

NPT threads are a bit odd as they refer to the pipe I/D not the thread. So don't worry about the size of the blank you measured.
