Anybody else of the opinion that silly old sods need removing from the road?
If not for their safety then for ours?

Having just been for a 100mph plus taz on the A and B roads round here, and encountering absolutley nothing in the way of a problem for either myself or anyone else, i meet.......HIM!
Was i speeding when i came across this twat? Nope! I was just turning into the road that runs along the bottom of our street from the main road, and there he is......an old fart.
Now much as i respect the elderly, i cannot have the same respect for this kind of dildo.
So hes just approaching the junction of the main road as i start to turn the corner, my indicator is on, im midway into the manouvre, and what does he do?
You guessed it! Hes going, come what may! No matter that my car is blocking his intended path, as i turn the corner.

Not that he even noticed that he was about to run into me either......

If these old twerps cant even see, then wtf are they doing in a lethal weapon for fecks sake?
When i am old and wizened, i expect, nay i demand, to be taken outside and despatched in the fastest, cleanest way possible.
Leastways, i wont then be a hazard on the roads!!!!!

Pulled up at some shops the other monday morning(pension Day) and watched as this old dude(over 60,s)
got out his car.
The bloke SHUFFLED from the car at SNAIL PACE.Now I am not against people wanting to get about and all that but they go on about Speeding/drink driving etc etc.
I should think a Young man of 20 ish (for example) driving at 50mph would have been able to stop in an Emergency quicker than this said bloke could doing about 5mph. Now wheres the Logic.

But perhaps the more mature experienced driver would not have got into the 'emergency' situation in the first place. Its unfortunate but true that quick reactions are a positive liability if they are the wrong reactions. I'd rather the other driver was Stirling Moss or our own McNab than most boy racers.
Sadly it seems that there are just as many myopic idiots driving in all age ranges over 17. Judging by the number of under 30s who don't seem to be able to see without their front fog lights on they must all have damaged eyesight.
Only answer seems to have a full driving test every 5 years for everyone and include technical knowledge of the car/bike, proper eyesight test and reaction test as well as motorway and night driving. Might even ease congestion a bit.

There is a type of driver that really gets me wound up - they are usually TOG's (sorry if that gives away my occational radio habits) but not exclusively so and will happily stand up and say "x years driving and never been in an accident!" - and are completely oblivious to the carnage they are causing behind them. Unfortunately my old mans of this descrption, and I don't have the heart to tell him - "Dad turn right here............"

Big M -- se if you can get the airbag deactivated if fitted to the car, 2inches in going to be more of a liability then not having one in an accident.
Classic one i had was park my Caterham 7 in village left a big gap between the front of my car and the next.
Walking back towards the 7 notice an oldish lady walk past my car, look at it, walk infront of it and get into the her car being the onein front of mine, thats ok I thought left a lot of room and she saw a left about 6 feet gap. (im considerate like that !)
next thing is that she is reversing briskly and opens up a suitable gap infront of her to beable to pull out but instead of stopping she keeps going until she shunts my car back 2 foot.
I Get up to the lady and she said that she knew the car was behind her but didnt know how far back she could go. (even though she looked and walked between the 2 cars before she drove off) so rather than go back gently and opens up a gap and drive out she just shoves it into reverse until she hits whatevers was behind her.
Thankfully no one else was behind her cos they would be squasshed.,

Old gits are a pain , how can they hold a driving licence if they can bearly walk ? as for the p155 vision they suffer the ammount of times i nearly got run over whilst surveying at the side of the road by grandad in his rover is unbeliveable , and this is with a van parked 200 yards before me at the verge with an orange light flashing and strobe lights in the rear foglights flashing away . old people drag them off the road they ARE a danger they get confused to easily drive the wrong way up motorways and are a pain on the road holding up everybody

You mean like this? Two elderly gentlemen were out for a drive in a large car. Both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along they came to an intersection. The lights were at red but they just went on through.
The old gent in the passenger seat thought to himself, "I must be losing it, I could have sworn we just went through a red light".
After a few minutes they came to another intersection, and the light was red again, and again they went right through. This time the gent in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red, and was really worried that he was losing it.
He was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention at the next intersection to see what was going on. Sure enough the light was red and they went straight on through.
So he turned to the other old gent and said, "George! Don't you know we just went through three red lights in a row! You could have killed us!
George turned to him and said "Oh Damn! Am I driving?"

Just to show that you don't need to be an old git to drive the wrong way: there was an incident (I always hesitate to use the word accident, I reserve that for occasions when nothing could realistically have been done to avoid the scenario) near me that I am certain is going to go down as one of history's biggest acts of motoring twattiness in this area, if not the entire country.
There is a flyover that carries the A19 dual-carriage over the River Tees. Periodically, they close it at night for maintenance and divert all traffic through Middlesbrough and over an old bridge.
So while the flyover was closed, someone left 'Boro on the slip to head south on the A19, south of the river. On joining the A19, he turned RIGHT and went NORTH up the SOUTHBOUND carriageway, over the flyover and down the other side.
So far, so good. Nobody about, no cones, no vehicles, nothing. So we can presume that he intended to take the next sliproad and leave the A19 on the other side of the river, driving down the closed slip.
Except that the slip joins the elevated section, and there's a steel fence that converges with the slip fence where the slip joins the main road, if you can picture it. He hit the joint of the fences at some speed (I heard a report that the car was cleaved down the middle). The engine ended up 100 yards from the car. The driver and one passenger were killed. The other passenger is in a bit of a state. Two of the occupants were father and daughter, though I didn't hear who was driving.
I bet they'll have some interesting family gatherings.

On a SOS mode, pulled out of a well lit filling station yesterday onto a relativly dark road to see an unlit cyclist heading for my driver door. Simply "didn't see him" We all make mistakes. Fortunately we missed each other by a few yards but he did have to slow down a bit. Which I always consider bad driving. If you make someone else slow down or deviate from their own route because of your driving thats bad, or so I was taught.

You've all got it wrong. It's not how old they are, it's whether they are wearing a hat or not.
My old man, for example, completely lost it as soon as he got a hat (a tweed pork pie number). Last time I was in the car with him, he's about to go through a red light (at about 18 mph in 5th
) then realises what he's done and does an emergency stop so that we are exactly in harms way in the middle of the junction...

The issue is not whether someone can walk or not, its whether they have suitable control over the car when they are driving. A perfect example of this is Jason Watt - Danish Touring Car champions while paralysed.
There is an old guy living on my road - he shuffles about, to and from his car (yes, it's a Rover). My immediate though was can that guy drive?! I didn't think anymore of it, after all how can his ability to drive be determined by seeing him walk?
I have now lived in my current house for six months, and I saw him driving for the first time a couple of weeks ago. He was trying to pull into his garage using over half throttle and slipping the clutch all the way in. There were also scrapes down each wing from the sides of the garage - not on the car a few months ago. Its sad but it seems that my initial gut feeling was correct, the guy shouldn't be on the road. What can be done to prevent this apart from compulsory retests every few years?

More explosives and no bag in Airbags? (make every accident a bad one)
Fit video recorders to all cars to record while driving? (old people can never work out the controls so they wouldn't drive)
Effective public transport? (only joking)
Make all cars so heavy and occupent friendly that anyone can crash over and over again with out damaging themselves? (this is the one that's being used now)
