GT3 rear seats?!

I noticed that a GT3 for sale in the Pistonheads classifieds has rear seat belts fitted. I always thought it was a strict 2-seater, which is why it doesn't make my shortlist alongside the 996TT - I really need the versatility of a 2plus2. So what's that all about then? Do some GT3s have rear seats, and others not? Can you feasibly squeeze anything other than a couple of toddlers into them?

And while I'm asking, does anyone have width measurements for the 996TT? I need to check it will fit in the garage or might need to think again anyway. Couldn't find old model measurements on the Porsche website. Ta.

I have a new build home, and my garage is smaller than a nat's nutts, but the tt fits in no problems, have had to put padding on the wall though.

I'm not a gt3 expert, but I think the comfort spec doesnt have a roll cage and that has rear seats, but don't know for sure.

The GT3 is strictly made as a 2 seater, the reason is because most cars come with fixed back recaros, so there is no real access.
However, the rear can be fitted with seat backs and bases if you find a car with the 'optional' sports seats. I believe all the correct mounting points are in place.
The seats will accommodate exactly the same as any 996.
Also the widest point of a 996 is the wing mirrors - turbo or not......

Given that no adults can feasibly and COMFORTABLY fit into the back of any 996 you could really only put kids in the back of GT3 were you to take the step of fitting seats into the rear.

I'm not sure you'd want to put kids into the back of this car. Even driving slowly, the ride, vibration, sound and general taughtness of the car, would make it a bloody aweful place to be be for a kid - if I had kids I wouldn't put 'em there and sure as hell wouldn't want to sit there if I was 4-8 years old mys

Fair point about the adults - however I have 3 kids; 13, 10 & 18months - the 13 year old is a bit lanky, so a bit of a squeeze, but they love it (not all at once, obviously) - legroom is actually ok, but headroom a bit tight - mines a Cab, so no probs there then. Shorts trip are fine....

The handbook says the GT3 "has two seats. The area behind the seats is not intended for passengers"

I bought the car on pistonheads with thte rear seatbelts. My kids love it - but I won't let them in it for than a short squirt though. They fit VERY comfotably (there is more room than my old 964, probably because its carpeted and there are no seat backs etc) and there is loads of head & leg room. They both easily squeeze past the Recaros in the forward position, but I only take them on short journeys as I am woried about the ease of egress in case of an accident - my kids are worth a lot to me!!

A friend I know is replacing his Recaros with Cobra Misano (a VERY light seat at about 12kg with movable back) so he can et his kids in the back.

Isn't there an insurance issue in that it is registered as a 2 seater, therefore it is not appropriate for people to be seating in the rear?

I'm yet to find on any of my documents where the car is a "2-seater".
