hats off to the people at Lotus. They have done a great engineering job on the Elise to fit everything in so tight into the shell BUT doesn't help me when i'm trying to fit new bits onto it! Have bought a Blue temp. sender but trying to get the old one off. Can't seem to get a spanner on. any tips? (ps does it untighten clockwise or anticlockwise??)

Its a normal thread so to tighten turn it clockwise and to undo turn anti clockwise.

As the bolt is upside down you will have to move the ratchet spanner towards the bulkhead to undo it.

Make sure the engine is cold when you do it and have the new sensor to hand so you can swop them quickly without draining all the coolant out of the expansion tank.

so let me get this straight- you turn the spanner away from the engine to undo it as it is upside down?

Yes so as you look down at the spanner you should turn it clockwise to undo.

No worries, hopefully you didn't leave too much skin behind.
