Very rare to get still water at midday... and it's only at midday that the sun is up far enough at this time of year (above the hills) to get proper reflections... so I was pleased to get this on the way to the pub

D2X, 17-55, bracketed in .7 steps for 7 shots. This is one of the dark ones.

It's bad enough at 920 wide, but at 750 it's pants so I'm afraid you'll need to follow the link: >> www.stevecarter.com/jan06.htm

Only method I have is to try and work out what the bloody hell I'm doing!

On past shots I've digitally blended to get the sky right (about as techie as I get), but on this one I used ND grad filter in front of the lens (I was worried that the dry stone wall would lose all it's detail) and all I did post camera was to add a little contrast, resize for web and sharpen edges.... oh and (cough) I had to rotate right a bit as the lake 'looked like' it had a slope, and I knew you'd spot it!

Apart from that I only really use PS to remove dust and telegraph poles and stuff. (Unless I'm mucking about with silly effects).

As with all 'carpet bomb carter productions', I took (according to my camera) 49 shots to get this one (four or five different compositions... that bloody tree, although needed, was a right pain - I couldn't get far enough back as there was a 2000 foot hill behind me - and Charlie was keen to get to the pub. He can get in a right strop if he doesn't get his beer and crisp).

Lovely shot Steve, I can see what you mean about the tree and I think you've dealt with it very well.... really, really nice. I expect it'll be making its way onto you're wallpaper section id ue course?

I'd love to see more of what could do motoring wise. Have you ever gone for a full-on shoot of one of your fleet? I imagine the combination of your eye for a shot, wonderful location and super subject would illicit some great stuff!

Excellent.

That little wooden fence at the end of the stone wall disappearing into the reflected sky is incredibly surreal.

Are you saying you havn't tweaked the saturation at all?

I ask because that's been my biggest issue with digital photography so far. It seems every photo I take needs extra saturation to some degree. And the same goes for sharpening too.

Martin.

I often used to... but I have to say the D2X holds colours much more than the D1X and D1 - so don't have to much these days. The colours were so vibrant yesterday, I even considered reducing the saturation. The cameara has two 'colour spaces' Adobe still needs some increased saturation, but the in my experience sRGB only rarely needs tweeking.

For example, this one I had to knock the saturation down by about 5% - and STILL people think I've upped the colour

Just to add Martin... that whenever I tweak contrast (which I often do) I use highlight/shadow - and the 'shadow' bit of this equasion always makes the colours stronger.

So I am a cheat after all.

I'm a bit pants at cars. One of these days I'll buy some long extensions for the hague mounts (like Matt) and then I'll try and get some. I'll wait for the next pretty car mind!

Oh and thanks for all the kind comments people, as I keep saying... IMHO it's all location, the right light and some decent kit! I'm just the monkey with the shutter release lucky enough to be there to record it.

Too modest by far.
