Spotted in an online article discussing the impending BMW produced Rolls:

Other elegant touches? How about a motorized hood ornament that drops into a secure recess to prevent theft of the Silver Lady, as well as B-pillar-less, front-opening rear doors for easy access to the passenger compartment?

Looking at the pictures, it looks like the rear doors are "suicide style"

yes, i think they are...

but why are they called suicide doors? because if you were a passenger in a new rolls or mazda rx-8 and wanted to end it all there and then surely it would be easier to jump out of conventional style doors to your death!?!

I always thought that it was something to do with the fact that the airflow around the car would blow "conventional" doors shut. With suicide doors, it would act to blow them open. Also I think getting dragged under the door at speed with the suicide style would perhaps do you more damage.

no that would be "homicide doors"

suicide would surely be you jumping out of the vehicle not the vehicle pulling you out...
