"I regret to advise that North Weald is unlikely to be used for future
motor sport events. Epping Forest Council wishes to use the site as a
market on both Saturdays and Sundays because of the greatly improved
revenue that it would yield."
One trusts that they will therefore be converting all their libraries
into pubs "because of the greatly improved revenue that it would yield"?

whats the background to your quote?.....and when is it due to come into force?
i hope it doesn't happen, they usually have about a sprint an month there with various clubs, its a little on the bumpy side, but a good venue though.
The Green Belt Motor Club are holding a sprint
at North Weald on 16/04/2006 & there's a campaign
to prevent North Weald from becoming a housing estate.

Hopefully the campaign will extend the life of this
airfield/ motorsport venue for at least a few more years.

AFAIK, it came from Borough 19 MC via the organiser of the sprint chamionship I'm in.

Dunno. But AFAIK the March 19th event has been cancelled.

And there's usually a pre-season opener there which is worth doing for practise, although sprinting in the snow is no fun.

unfortunately I think you are right, the AEMC website states there's a potential problem which could affect all dates for sprints at North Weald this year..

The local council said they wanted to hold an indoor market on sundays & decided not to allow motorsport events as the sprint area would be used a car park! Thankfully the MSA got involved and sorted it out.

SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP 2006
UPDATE: 11th February 2006
I am pleased to say that Sprinting is back on at North Weald.
On Thursday 9th February John Symes of the MSA and representatives of the organising clubs met with Epping Forrest DC and were successful in securing the continued use of North Weald for Sprinting. There will however be a few changes to the course, entrance and paddock arrangements etc., but it does mean an end to the section with the most bumps (which must be good news). More details from those clubs organising events in due course.
The championship calendar is also unchanged, at least for the first few events.
Registrations for 2006 are steadily coming in and I hope to have championship stickers and registration cards to those registered before the first event on 19th March.

your guess is as good as mine..but if it means that sprints will continue to run, I don't really care if they have an indoor market at the same time. Unfortunately there's another potential problem which would stop all motorsport on this site, which is the proposal to build 6,000 homes there..
