Newbie porsche nut.
Discussion
Hi all, just introducing myself,im Pete from essex and hopefully in the next few months i will be living the dream and buying my first porsche.I see there are lots of models to choose from so i may be asking some silly questions over the next few months.Im interested in something turbocharged,a bit different from the ordinary and for track use.
uponone said:It's Ace - I bought one over a GT3 - purely because it did it more for me - and it's a GT2 for Christs sake...! There are plenty on this forum who'll recommend the GT3 and they're right too - cos' it's also an Ace car. Depends on what you want.
I was thinking of a gt2.Not really seen many for sale though.whats it like compared to the gt3?
GT2 - a bit scary - very fast - looks awesome - handling great to a point, but not confidence inspiring.
GT3 - fast but non turbo, so a bit revier - handling excellent, much more confidence inspiring - a bit of an Icon.....
You should try both - if it's posing you're after, you have to have a GT2, cos it's the fastest 911 ever made......you can pick them up at less than 60k now (120k + new!), but the 2004 model was better and redressed the 'widowmaker' image by changing the chassis dynamics and making it easier to drive.
Good luck and over to someone else to 'big-up' the GT3....
The GT2 sounds like what im after.I like my turbos.I think the biggest change will be going for 2wd as ive been so used to awd.Do the 4wd porsches suffer from a lot of transmission loss?I,ll be working out the country for 8months of the year so the wife will be driving it to work but when im back in the country i want to be able to get over to the nurgburgring for a good thrash.Any tuning specialists that people recommend?

It will be a few months yet before i make my purchase,as i havent started my new job yet, so i,ll have plenty of time for me and the wife to test drive the different models. At the end of the day it will probably have to suit her more than it suits me but it will have to put a smile on my face.Do many porsche owners tune/modify their cars?

GT2s and to a lesser extent GT3s ask quite a lot of the driver. If you've come from an Evo etc. and ever had to rely on the electronics, it might be a bit of a shock. From what you've said a turbo sounds more appropriate. I'd get tired of the ride and taking speedbumps diagonally if I drove either of the others everyday anyway. For most, they are more weekend cars.
On the plus side, my wife loves driving the RS. She gets some funny looks from blokes when shes in it too

Ive been used to the awd of my nissan pulsar,no electronic gizzmos, but the awd has saved me on a few occasions!Im really looking forward to a more driver orientated car(rwd). The pulsar was another must have car when i was a kid,so thats why i bought it.Ive taken the car to 400bhp and ive come to a juncture where i can afford to either buy a porsche or take the pulsar to silly BHP levels but the little nissan has a real issue with weak gearbox casings ,even with uprated quaiffe internals.Does the gt2/3/rs suffer any weakness,s when modified ?

Depends on how half arsed the mods are
. It's fairly expensive to tune a GT3 and you can't get too far since its NA. GT2s can be taken to silly levels of power reliably, but it's a bit of a handful even in standard trim. Personally I wouldn't particularly relish sending my wife out in a GT2 in all weathers. Wouldn't even relish doing it myself!
To be honest neither should need modding immediately, they are both at the point where driver ability is more of a determining factor. If this is your first RWD sports car then you are definitely looking at diving in right at the deep end.
