Guys

Help needed in true MTV "Pimp My Ride" style! My car is awesome, with the 18 inch rims, the 4 litre S6 engine..........0-60 quicker than my wife can scream at me......but the issue is the stereo system in it sucks! I have some crappy pioneer stereo with crappy little speakers that give me a useless sound and poor radio reception. I had the car in to the garage and had a booster fitted and that did a grand total of FA so now I am looking to get an awesome stereo system fitted, DAB, iPod compat etc with speakers that make sure I hear the music over the roar of the engine.

I dont want to look like "Kevin & Perry" on a beach in Ibiza but I want to enjoy my music and make sure that if I am listening to Chris Moyles in the morning, it is not like listening to crackling!!

So what am I after - some advice really guys. What have other PH users put in to their TVR's (Tuscan's) and whats good / bad etc. I dont want to spend a fortune but enough to make sure I get what I am looking for....

Thanks in advance for your help guys.........

Dan

Soory DJ, but I have the crappy Pioneer still in it, with the tinny speakers, I much prefer to have the sound of the exhaust, the engine and on a day like today the wind rushing over the open roof, cant help anymore, but will add the stereo aint that bad is it? CK

I'm with you dj. The st system is rubbish. Trouble is what to do about it? I've swapped the head unit for a better JVC with mp3 as well so i can fill cds from my mp3 player prog. Saves having origional cd's in the car & fit 6-7 on each one. I keep meaning to fit some good quality 165mm speakers in the rear bulkhead panel but not got around to it yet. Can be done as threads posted in the past have shown. No wires in place tho for 2nd pair. There have been some really good threads on the subject, one showing pics every step with amps, subs the lot. If i can find it i'll post the link.
Or prehaps someone will beat me to it. D.

Had a new rear Bulkhead in plywood and all fitted while the car was being made, sounded awesome!

Hmmm, doesnt appear to work?
Barefoot, your system looks superb. Do you know how big the standard gap is between bulkhead and tank.
I assume that you have increased the space to fit the speakers.
Thanks Dave.

From what I remember not a great deal of room as standard even though I had mine done when the car was being built others on here have done something similar after the cars had been made so it is possible to put in a new false bulkhead. They have it covered in the same carpet from TVR I think.

You dont lose that much space in the back and since the Tuscan has a good size boot it isn't a problem anyway. I also upgraded the speakers in the rear side panels but on hindsight that wasn't really neccessary.

I had a similar system in my Cerbera with the sub in the rear cubby hold between the seats but the Tuscan sounded far better. The system Tvr built into my present T350 is the best so far. They made new door panels with MDF fibreglassed in to take a good sized door speaker that breathes into the door enclosure and made a false floor in the boot for the amp and DAB unit. The rear bulkhead was made out of MDF and brought forward to take the sub and 16x9 speakers and I had a cover with the TVR logo made to protect the sub. Sounds awesome!

You certainly take your sounds seriously. I know blaupunkt do a 200w 165mm speaker which is v shallow so i,m hoping that this will fit without further mods. I'm i bit concerned about cutting a hole only to find the tank pushed up to close. I guess i could allways fit a spacer if things were tight. The speakers should work well 'breathing' into the gap. I'm gonna be brave and give it a go tommo. Not be a patch on your system but should improve things a fair bit. Will post a pic when job done. D.

Just a word of warning.......A previous owner had 2 speakers and a small sub fitted in my rear bhd but when the bass is chucked up, it 'flaps' a lot, turning it right up is very easy once the roof is off or when youre into real bassy music, its that bad i have to turn the sub off or the bass right down. I'm in the 'process' of contacting "Metaman!" (Carl) of wwwtvruktv, i spoke to him before xmas, he seems to know his stuff

I've fitted a set of MB Quart 10cm components in the normal side panel speaker locations, and a pair of Genesis 6x9 subs in a carpetted MDF panel in front of the bulkhead. The components are set up with a high-pass filter, and the subs are wired in mono with a low-pass filter, so they all work nicely together. Only problem is that they need a lot of power, so the setup needs a decent 3 or 4 channel amp. The most complicated piece of the installation was cutting a template for the MDF, but once it was all in you can hardly tell it apart from a standard car.

I'm in the same boat as you dj. I've seen a nice set up on R555SSH's profile, but although i've e-mailed a couple of times for info, have had no reply. :-(

Had a look behind carpet on the rear bulkhead and found holes already cut out, Only 120mm but i reckon a 165mm speaker will fit with a bit of mod,or a 130mm with no probs. The space is between the top of the fuel tank and the 'cubbyhole' in the back/top of the boot. Cant see why speakers cant protude thro into this space as it will be sealed when the flap is shut. There are wires routed along the tank top/ bottom of cutouts so beware when cutting out carpet.
