...all the time, went out for a quick run today, the first time in a couple of weeks, the fuel gauges are reading full/54ltrs on all menus, i know it ain`t full so i have checked/done the following.
Disconnected and reconnected the sender wiring in the boot
Put more fuel in hoping in might be temporary stuck gauge
I have had a issue with the tank not venting i.e when you open the fuel filler it sucks in masses of air enough for the tank to bang as the sides move!
I have hopefully traced this to the pipe on the side of the filler which was badly kinked around the wheel arch.
I am missing something simple? I can`t seem to find any fuse/relay for the gauge? Does it have one?

Any other suggestions before a trip to the dealers?
Thanks Tony

I had a similar problem, the floater arm was too long and was wedged against the side of the tank... It wasn't reading full, but was reading 27 ltrs even when I filled the tank...

Hope it is sorted, let me know if it was the same thing...

have had many problems recently since i had the sender unit changed. Had replacements put in but still it seems to under read, am sussing out it may be around 5 ltrs out but that is no good when it goes up on half a tank. Martyn at RG says it may be the ECU not recieving the readings or interpretting them right, have not had the courage to take it back yet.

.................UPDATE.............................

After speaking to my dealer, i tried to take out the sender unit in the tank, quite easy really, access to the sensor/sender is made by removing the boot tray which is velcroed in place,I removed the carpeting on top of the tank, this gives you access to the inspection cover, this is held in place by 12 yes 12! 6mm bolts, i removed the cover and tried to get the sender unit out, how ever i couldn't`t release it from the tank, as it was now near freezing i decided to put every thing back together and have another go at the weekend. After i had replaced every thing i thought i will fire up the car and check every thing was OK and Fuel gauge back to normal reading 32 litres which is about right, a let the car idle for 10 minutes to make sure the fuel gauge went down.
So hopefully by disturbing the sender unit in the tank, i have cured my problem
