All this does is shorten the travel of the accelerator pedal, so while it may seem to improve throttle response, it's much cheaper to just put your right foot down more quickly!

Stick a KKK turbocharger on it!!!!

Seriously though, don't waste your time and money on engine mods on a N/A 2.5. If you're after real power then you need to go to a 951. Have a look over at Rennlist.com, there are blokes in the States who are getting 500bhp from a 951!!! Of course, they'll only recoup a fraction of the build cost if they sell the car, but still... 500bhp... Mmm

Put a turbo on it? Seriously though, I've heard mention of a place that builds race engines with about 190bhp? Not sure how that would behave in a road car though. There are also some performance parts available from ProMax Motorsport which might help

How deep are your pockets! The problem with the 2.5 is that very few people cater for this engine. Later 2.5 engines (I think 1985.5 onwards) can be chipped which improves response and maybe mid range. You can also get a MAF (Mass Air flow) conversion to replace the old barn door AFM, the barn door is the unit just behind the air filter housing and according to some this is a major restriction.

A company called EMC in brum who race prepare 944's will lighten and balance the engine which improves things a great deal but its not cheap.

The most effective route to making an old 2.5 fast cross country is to concentrate on sorting the handling and the brakes, maoney spent in this area will give you a better mph/£ ratio than money spent on the engine!

EMC know their stuff and they can do wonders for the car, but your biggest gain in performance will come from improving your own driving.

If your talant already exceeds that of your car then I'd start with the suspension and brakes and leave the engine work until you can afford it or if you're as unlucky as me you're forced down that route when your engine goes bang!

Hi JTT,
As the link already supplied I can recommend the advice/products offered by Promax Motorsport.
Realising that "bolt on" bits don't usually make a huge difference on N/A cars I was very impressed by their performance chip, fitted it myself and (being a sceptic) was very impressed, especially for the cost!
