OPC TYRE SHOCKER

Went to OPC Brighton today for a sniff round.

Shocked to see that on a £62k Turbo, the tyres had obviously been just put on (brand new!) but were back to front (tht is to say the direction of rotation was incorrect!!)

Dangerous, non?

Did you mention it to anyone there?

But won't it get noticed on the 111 point check or the PDI just after they have checked the wheel nuts are torqued up properly

Must admit I was pretty shocked.

Not sure they were responsible, but you would haev though someone would have noticed when the blacked the sidewalls??

My 996 is going in for its service next week. I will be checking EVERYTHING.

Do you mean Burgess Hill. Shocking if so. They are my local OPC and I always thought they were on top of their game.

Sorry Brighton was nearest place about 10 minutes away on an industrial estate.


The bogs were disgusting too. No flush and no bog roll.

Very poor effort.

Used to run the tyres "backwards" on my 7... helped get them up to temp a bit quicker. dont think its a major problem until it starts to get wet... unless they are asymetrical in which case other things might come in to play - sidewall construction etc...

Being mindful on the name-and-shame rules, I must say I've never found OPC Burgess Hill to be much good, either in their current location or when they used to be in Brighton. I ordered a set of snow chains a while back and nobody called to say they had arrived, then they couldn't find them... Just amateurish.

Most supprised to hear this. As I say they are my local OPC and in my experience they are very good.

Hope this was just an easily explained one off.

Appologies for the thread hijack, but the same thing happened to me when I took delivery of my Cerbera. The worst thing about it being it was the last thing I expected to happen, so I didn't spot it. As I understand it, your insurance is invalid in these circumstances, so not only are you at greater risk of an incident, you're not covered either. It's a school boy error given there's an arrow on the side of the tyre to help even the most 'gifted' individual fit the tyre correctly. I'm pretty staggered to hear it of an OPC.

Fortunately it's relatively easy to spot incorrectly fitted tyres. How many owners would notice if a brake disk has been fitted to the wrong side?

Interesting comment about rotation of the tyre being the wrong way around. My tyres must be different (Pirelli Assimetricos), they can rotate in either direction but there is an inner and an outer tread pattern that must be correct.

Did you mention your concerns about the tyre and the WC to anyone at the OPC? and what was their response?

My local OPC did this on one of my cars - I could not believe it!

It's not really the tyres that are fitted wrongly - it's probably the wheels that have been put back on the wrong hubs.

If they're swaped, then job done. It's very easily done with directional tyres, particularly as not all porsche tyres are directional.
