Well, managed to get the Can-Am into a state where I could test run the engine for the first time at the weekend.

I was so please (and a bit shocked) that she went on the first stab of the starter!

I took a video which is absolutely not staged, it was the very first time I'd ever tried to start it. It will be on Pistonheads TV v.soon.

Not only that, but despite all my loom mods, everything seems to be working as it should including the immobiliser/alarm system.

I'm SO happy

Will post link when vid is up...

Nice one Stig!

I hope I have the same luck in a couple of months time! My electronics panel that is going behind the passenger seat is getting a bit full. There's the Holley commander ECU, Injector driver box, MSD unit, Traction control box and the Aeromotive fuel pump speed controller. Then there is the supercharger and getting a decent base map for the ECU. Miracles do happen don't they!

All the best Dave

Congratulations, Stig. Hope to be there soon, too. I just got mine out of the crate it came in. Get ready for lots of dumb and dumber questions!!!

Hi Stig, I wondered this before after reading one of you posts/site updates and wonder even more now. But don't alarms have to be fitted by an 'expert' so that you can get the piece of paper insurance companies like to keep them happy? Or perhaps you can get it approved later? I got my car through SVA with just a battery master switch (although I don't think the tester even looked for any security device), it was the insurance companies that insisted on a CAT I or II system. When I had mine fitted the guy let me install the sensors and wires, he just hooked it up and checked it out.

Well done Stig. Great moment. Is that engine big enough to haul all that electronic gear.

I entered into a work share agreement with my alarm supplier.
I fitted it and he signed the certificate.

He did come to my place and pressed the buttons etc to test it but i'm sure he only came to see the car.

Well done Chris. How's the final piece of the build coming along? That being sourcing a car seat for Charlie that can be fitted using a 4-point racing harness!

If you have a local 'friendly' alarm installer (like I have ) you can do the install, then they will inspect it and fill in the paperwork.

It's pretty academic as the removable steering wheel is more of a deterrant! It did mean I had remote central locking this way though

Yup, got to get him used to it

Once he'd finished his feed, he sat on the rear wheel whilst we were running it (and of course, exploring the rev range - he loved every minute of it.... until it got a bit smokey and he started crying

Just like his dad

small suggestion for starting a new engine guys.

isolate the ignition and turn the engine over a few times to circulate oil through it,(check oil pressure if possible) before you start it up.....

your engine will thank you for it.

also applies to engines that have not been run for a few years .

This was all done prior to the start. It can take what seems like an age to circulate the oil to the sender. The sender was also removed to remove any trapped air.

While we're at it, make sure the oil filter is primed with oil and remove the plugs whilst turning over to minimise stresses on the bearing shells.

I'm surprised you dont use an oil pump priming tool on the end of an electric drill, cost £14.00, engine £*****.00 !
