Are points transferrable?

Hey folks,
Shortly relocating to Dublin and will have to get an Irish licence. Unfortunately I have a few points on my UK licence - will these be transferred to my new Irish licence?
Any ideas? - also, when renewing car insurance and asked 'do you have any motoring convictions?' - does this mean endorsements/points?

Not sure about transfer between different countrys etc but motoring Convictions does mean Points etc - SP30 = Exceeding the speed limit on a public road etc etc.
