2.4ltr V8's no great idea

The lose of 150bhp+ is just going make the car alot easier to drive. Will mean that the driver with less seat of the pants natural driving skill we be able to get closer to the action of the truely top guys.
Aero has hardly been cut - they will be able to go road more corner flat that before and they still have the bloody traction control to make it eevn easier.
They should be going the other way and staying with big power and REALLY cutting all this aero crap - putting the emphasis back on the mechanical grip rather than areo. Big slick so the car will go sideway no these joke grooved one's that don't like it. One Tyre manufacturer could control compounds to keep speedsin check.
My guess is the season will be closer - but does not mean the racing will be better the cars will not have enough power to get out of shape even with the traction crap.
(I was trying this the other day in a car I use alot - and you can just nail the throttle early and the system just sorts it all out cutting power braking wheels - UTTER CRAP. For people that have NO idea what is going on underneath them.
Heard an EVO test a good while back had a stack of Evo type cars drivers, 4x4, ABS, Yaw control, etc etc, put them through a slalom in there cars and then through the same in a powerfull rwd one - most spanked most of the cones as THEY just expected the car to do it for them.
XV8R series type silouttes cars (not single seaters) are what cars should be like - mad and bad - RWD looklike saloons you can by but with CART / Champcar Ford XB V8 (NA 650bhp or 950bhp turbo lumps with limited wings and tyres. Brilliant.
My money is on Trulli, Alonso, Schumi & Rak (if the get the engine sorted - Merc always seem to struggle!), Ruben's, maybe Jenso and I hope Niko in the Cossy Williams.

Don't forget that the torque of the engine is also reduced in proportion. This is likely to be more of an issue, as mistakes will be punished much more. Traction control is no good if the problem is that the engine revs simply won't rise. Mid corner speed will be even more so, the holy grail. Anyone getting it wrong will get passed. Actually could be quite good.
Racing at the top level of anything will never be easy. Even at club level, you would be amazed at how many novices come in and go balls out, then wonder why they are still 7.5 seconds off the pace. The good drivers will always come to the top.

FWIW I think that the V8s will encourage the "smooth carry as much speed through the corner as you can", style of driving more so than the "bully the car to the apex, hit the throttle and wait for the TC to sort it out" style. That's why I think Fisichella will do well and why Massa won't.
Once TC is outlawed in 2008, we really should see a return to the purer driving technique empitomised by the likes of Jim Clark - if aero is cut too and CDW or whatever change that suggestion is designed to provoke (for sure it's another Max bargaining point) is introduced, perhaps we'll see a bit of drafting too.
I'd venture that if we keep a weather eye on GP2 this year, we'll be able to spot those drivers who will adapt well to post 2007 F1.
Roll on 2006!
