Caught the end of an item on the radio. It sounded like there's been a Ford GT crash.

My imagination ?
Anyone know details ?

Yes, some dude was pushing his car to the limits and i think it fishtailed.

3 news said it was nothing to do with speed............yeah right. In a Ford GT40 your foot will be to the floor!

Is this a GT40 Original? A GT40 Replica or a new Ford GT....if it was the Original or the GT that's gonna be VERY expensive.

Just gained a very sketchy insight from one of the guys at work - apparently it happened in Manukau. The guy (in a Ford GT I'm assured *i.e. take with a pinch of salt*) supposedly attempted to take evasive action - having poked the car's nose where he shouldn't have - using a hefty dose of throttle, lost control of the car and ended up wrapping it neatly around a pole. As you do....

Anyone with any real insight out there?

Re: no speed involved - it is totaly possible to fish tail a mid engined car with very little speed involved. I know I've done it in my Elise at less than 50 kph.

Take one sharp bend,
one greasy road
drive round the bend slowly and carefully
When you think the road has straightened
Nail right foot to floor in clumsy fashion
Discover wheels arent quite straight as the back end swings around
Steer into the skid too quickly and feel the back end swing the other way
Finally regain grip with the car pointed straight at the, hedge or garbage
Demolish hedge, garbage, road sign, and car!

That's a truly impressive description Steve. Do you give master-class lessons on how to perfect this technique ?

Actually right now I'm the last person who should be commenting on unanticipated polar moments.

I'll agree with Steve.... in the wet especially, those Elise S1s canbe evil handling things... seem to have a LOT of front end grip but NO rear end traction under power..... and then they like to swap ends.

Anyone know the location ?

Wouldn't mind a cruise out there to check out the site for research purposes.

Looks like he probably survived though (fingers crossed).

We've just had a fatality in the Ulitma fraternity, one that spun out on a roundabout in front of a BMW...

I've had the back of my GTR out and been shaken around like a kitten in a pit bull's mouth, it's all to easy to do in these kind of cars, made me seriously consider installing a traction control unit...
