Around a week ago i had a pain in the neck literally, like a trapped nerve, this went on for a few days and at the same time was spreading along the right shoulder, shoulder joint and upper right arm.

Its livable pain and nothing like ear or tooth ache(thankgod)but none the less its nagging and now starting to p*ss me off,ive taken some painkillers but they only last for a short while.

My freinds have suggested i might have trapped a nerve, got a chill or pulled a muscle,i dont want to trouble a doctor to find out but if any of you have a remedy to share i am willing to give it a go.

I've had similar for the last week or so, a dull ache across the top of my shoulder to my neck. I think it's because it's my 'dominant' driving arm and I've covered about twice my usual mileage in the last few weeks. It's starting to annoy me now .

If it were on the left I'd suspect a heart attack. I'd go and see the quack to be on the safe side anyway.

Yep me mum used to be a nurse so ime aware of the heart attack side,i would be straight up the menders if that was the case

Its like Tomtom has said a dull ache, ive even tried Hot baths and putting extra T-shirts on when i go to bed to keep the muscle warm, but to no avail.

Stop being a bloke and go see the Doc, at the very least he'll give you a prescription for some better pain-killers.

If its a trapped nerve or a prolapsed disk get it seen to now. It will get worse and take longer to fix if you dont. Then if you end up for a couple of months not being able to use the arm you will wish you had gone to the doctors.

Get to the menders now

go & see the doc!
In the meantime take ibuprofen & paracetamol 2 hours apart & repeat foar as long as you are awake. This was the advice my orthapaedic surgeon gave me for when my back plays up. That way you don't take above the recommended doses & will go some way to managing the pain.

I get this all the time.
Initially feels like its in your neck but pressing lower down on either side of the spine around the shoulder height locates the offending nerve/muscle whatever thats pulled.
Usually happens to me when im in bed for some reason....

Go and see a chiropractor.

They're very good at sorting out stuff like this. A few clicks and crunches and you'll be fixed.

Take something for the swelling, but I'm really against taking just *pain* killers. It's really easy to then push too hard and cause further damage when you've pulled a muscle or tendon or whatnot.

Pain is good, it's telling you something is wrong and to not over-do it. Always let the last painkiller wear off before taking another too. I got to a stage of pre-emtive ibuprofen taking for a fortnight after a really bad absesse tooth, and was effecively addicted I think.

On a side note, the sticky patches you get and slap on work wonders. I got a chinese one of my Chairopractor and one night with that on and the heat and neutrients in them get to the muscle and stuff and do wonders for aches and pains!

I've got a small Buck-Wheat Husk pillow which you can nuke in the microwave.

Really good for loosening up a stiff neck but obviously not adequate for anything serious.

Shows how many of us are old and knackered before our time. Backs Knees etc all giving out on us.

Maybe we need a healthcare section on here!
