Is it easy to make a S1 look like a sport 160? ?

I drove by a local garage yesterday on my way to Boundry Mill, Colne and spotted a racing green with biscuit interior up for sale i think at 11k. Not sure of mileage, but I thought what if. The g'f would kill me....

why not just buy a Sport 160? Probably pick one up for £13k in the current market.

In answer to yoru question, a set of Victory alloys, the S160 rear spoiler and bingo. But that will cost you £1k so I'd just buy the genuine thing.

Thanks for the information.

I may ask a friend to run me down in his S2, so the seller (edit) knows I am keen to look into more detail of it. If I turn up in mine, more than likely think "boy racer"

And headlamp covers, stickers, S160 seats etc., if you want 'authenticity'.

Oh, and don't forget to adjust the idle so that it sounds like a diesel with a misfire when idling.

Thing is, if it is a 160, i would be interested. Not a S1 with some upgrades to it as good as they are. I remember when I was just learning to drive and my older brother got a escort with rs on the rear (lookalike)

I am used to the power underneath my foot, its the same engine as the rover.

erm, ok. Bit lost here. So you want it to look like a S160, perform like a S160 and you don't want a replica....

Why not buy a S160?

PS - cheap S160 on autotrader if you like bright yellow and don't mind a Cat registered car. For track use, I'd be tempted.

oh I see. Right you are! So you saw an Elise that looks like a S160 for sale and want to know if its possible to fake the look.

Easy enough to add a few bits to give a similar appearance and for £11k from a dealer I would be very surprised if it was the real mccoy.

Just an observation...

I've owned a mildly modified standard S1 (decat, big throttle body, sports zorst - say 125bhp?), currently own a Sport 160, and have driven several 111S's.

If you are looking at a car for road use, the 111S is probably quicker, and the standard 118bhp car not significantly slower, than a S160 in real world conditions. The S160 is an Old Skool tuned engine - lumpy cams and no variable cam timing - so it can't pull the skin of a rice pudding at low revs. It is great fun - and significanly quicker - if you keep it on the boil, but it lacks the mid-range grunt for overtaking on the road.

The S160 is a great track/weekend blast car, but if you are doing higher mileages or dealing with a lot of normal road traffic, think seriously about the 111S...at least try to get decent test drives in both variants, to see which you prefer.

Just get your balls out and get a real Sport 160

Junks on SELOC is selling a Cat registered one around 10k if you're interested.

I have a genuine sport 160 and use it every day, motorways, ice, snow, whatever, its fine. If you like this kind of car and want something thats a bit ruff but rewards when you rag the nuts off it, then dont bother with the other elises, get a sport 160, they look loads better and go like stink when you cane them ! True, mine has had a fair few mods, but the original spec was still nearly as much fun. Easy desicion ehhh.
