I didn't know they did Ultra Deisel 
The ULTRA deisel pump is virtually identical to the petrol one. And if you don't realise they do ULTRA deisel and your in a bit of a rush................
A large cloud of smoke later & I thought I had a dead motor
Still didn't twig what had happened until I'd pushed the car back in to the forecourt and walked back over to the pump.
Coincidentally it is currently being discussed here.

This'll make you feel better ... BP are well aware of the confusion. I remember some consumer group dragging the matter to the attention of the press about 6 months ago. Got onto the TV news. BP started putting warning notices up on their forecourts but for some reason they didn't abandon their crap branding and clearly it is still catching people out.
If they'd just use different coloured hoses like everyone else!
That would cost them money out of their sad little profits though.
BP seem to be the only outlets with this problem.
They were the only garage that supplied fuel (Ultra!) that made my TVR pink too.
Now I just avoid them.
Their marketing people need a kick up the arse.

As a result of that cock up I now deliberatly avoid BP filling stations and will go out of my way to find an Optimax pump instead 
.I thought it was just me being stupid!
I feel so much better now.
I put in half a tank full on the North circular returning from Tower View, realised something was wrong from the smell.
Then spent 10 minutes in the queue to pay for the oily stuff, went back and topped up with the petrol, spent another 10 minutes in the queue and drove home in a very rough and smoky manner.

Isn't there a flap over the diesel pump that you have to lift before filling? Probably only in Belgium as the mistake is happening to over 50% (just joking) of them.
Run diesel and petrol cars myself (TVR still being the petrol type until now) and always check several times before filling any of them up.
Isn't this the same type of problem of people mixing manual and automatic gearbox type of cars? Had some bad moments when manual drivers got into an automatic with me in the passenger seat! Especially the first time they hit the clutch and it is the brake pedal......
Same for getting in a car with powersteering back in the days of that only top of the range cars had it. First corner, and hit the pavement just like that!
Hopefully your problem is rectified easily.

Cheers Steve, she seems to be fine now but I am going to change the fuel filter and the plugs next week anyway.
