Hi folks, 164 wiring question....
Discussion
Hi,
The rear window demist and mirrors have stopped working on the 164. When I prod the relevant button on the dash the light comes on in the instrument pod telling me it's working however nothing is happening. It's a bit annoying as the aerial which needs power is also kaputt so I can't listen to the radio (this is the type that runs across the rear screen, I believe using the same power supply as the rear window demist..
Does anyone know which route a wire would take? I don't really want to start pulling interior trim off due to the likelihood it won't go back on properly.
Or falling off.
Thanks.
Mike.

Checked that Pete, unfortunately the one in the spot is in rude health......but....I have rechecked the fusebox under the steering column, and a relay seems to be missing, but that would stop the light working on the dash if it was missing altogether wouldn't it?
As you can tell, I'm not electrically minded, ok with a spanner, but electrics get me every time

This happened to me 10 years ago with my 164 TS. It went back to Alfarama twice because the first two times they just checked the circuits and fuses. They finally pinpointed the fault to some booster thingey under the rear seat. There was a big labour charge (dismantling and re-asssy of interior) to fix it! Although it was a big bill it was the only actual failure in 74000 miles and 6 years of ownership.
On my 1990 164, there's a dirty great 35 Amp fuse by itelf in a single holder near the battery in the boot that protects the heated rear screen circuit. I think it was a "strip" type fuse from memory but I've put a blade fuse in there now. The light on the dash goes on when you press the switch but the screen doesn't demist. Dunno about the mirrors though!

Sorted

Interestingly, my 164 handbook doesn't show this relay or fuse anywhere, I have checked and rechecked. According to my book the relay should in 3rd position under the dash in the fuse box.

Good old alfa, that's why I like them, they keep you on your toes.

Great to read this ..... my rear screen has recently stopped working too , maybe I can now fix it

Aw shucks, you're making me blush!
Thanks all!
(but I actually got it off the American 164 site when mine stopped working a few years ago so I can't really take the credit)!
It's:
