Today I have to deceide if my car shall be delivered with pre fitted body or not. The cost for prefit with FIA cage is 1400£ and that feels a bit steap...

Have all of you ordered with pre fit? If not how hard was it to do the job? Is it worth all that money?

Does seem a bit pricy, does it include removing the shut lines?

I did my own body, it took me at least 50hrs over a couple of weeks to get right.

The first 30hrs were spent genuinely believing it was never going to fit, I had never done that kind of thing defore and knowing were to move and twist it is a real art.

My advice, have a go yourself but dont do any final fixing untill you are 100% sure its exactly as you want it, don't give in to any "thats as good as it fits" thoughts and if after 30-40hrs you are still at the I can't do it stage, send it to the factory.

Oh I also think that paying the factory to remove the flash lines is a necessary evil.

Good luck.

If you get stuck or need a hand Im sure someone in your area will come round and give you some pointers.

Thanks for the answer.

The 1400 was for prefit only. Removing the lines was another 485£

Getting help from someone in my area will be difficult... I live in Sweden

Sweeden Eh! Now that makes your decision harder.

It isn't easy but the body is as good quality as the rest of the kit and all it should take to do it justice is time and patience.

I must say though that many builders would recomend you had the pre-fit done, it is very intimidating having to cut and drill the fibreglass.

I think it now depends on you.

You can't imagine how easy it is to walk up to the car and just put rivets in predrilled holes. Body alignment will not only afect how the car looks, it also affects how it will sound and how long it will last.

The price that the factory charges for the body prefit is more than worth it. This will greatly speed up your build and improve the finished product.

My friend did the body fitting himself and it turned out pretty good. However, it was very time consuming and he said he would pay for it to be done if he was doing it again.

It all comes down to whether you feel that you want to do everything yourself. The trend these days seems to be for a lot of people to get the factory to do it, but if you feel confident, or want the additional challenge, I'd have a go yourself.

The factory always do a good job, and (because they do it all the time), they do it pretty quickly. However, it's just like any other skilled job. An amateur can do it just as well, as long as they take their time, do it methodically, and don't lose patience. It might take you 5 times as long, but you should be able to do it.

As Ted says, there's nothing in the build that a first time builder shouldn't be able to do, just as long as they follow the rules.

Hear, hear James,

I opted for a factory prefit because I didn't feel comfortable having spent a large sum of cash on something only for it to end up looking like a dogs dinner. The mechanical finish may be ala McLaren but if passers by see 10mm shut lines and crooked bodywork then it just looks pants.

It may seem like a lot of dosh, but considering the difference it makes to the final look, without the worry of chopping into that lovely GRP (he says having just spent 7 hours doing just that fitting the wheel arch vents!) it's money well spent.

Stig,

You finally figured out how they go on then. How did you do it? I couldn't see how they would go on when you showed them to me.

I'll be updating the website on Friday to show in detail, but in brief, the factory has a GRP template which they will loan out so that you can cut the apetures in the right place.

Not a job for the faint hearted though!!!

I did my body fit, it was not the easyest part of the build, but it was deffinatly the most rewarding.
It's a question of time, if your in a rush then the factory can help, but I'm personaly glad I did my own. Andy and Dave at the factory where realy helpfull to start me off, but it's only the door's that are alittle tricky. There are loads of us who can allways be on the other end of a Phone, Just email me if you want my Phone Number.

I purchased the pre-fit to save time on the build. I also figured the Factory's done so many the quality would be better. I'm happy I did.

Thanks for all the answers. Since time is so hard to find in the "modern world" I deceided to go with pre fit body. This way I can put more time into the engine bits and thats where the real fun begins (IMHO)
