Hi Guys,

I'm off Wednesday night to build the server, and I'm gonna order a GT Legends license so we're legal.

However, is it that we are legal already, i.e. can we run the deidcated server exe without the disc - I've not tried - can anyone enlighten me?

Additionally I'll be installing Teamspeak on there too, and I'll have VPN access to the server so I can remotely adminster it should we have any problems.

One thing I will ask is that we change the password every so often so that we don't get monkies guessing the password and using our server without us - it would be unfair to Giles if this happened.

Do you want me to try to set up a mailing list, so we can issue new passwords to "registered" individuals?

w00t.

Will you able to administer it yourselves if there's no admins in the game?

E.g. If no-one else is online, could one join the server and set up a race on Donington, perhaps just to do a bit of practice? Then if anyone joins then its a bonus.

Also what was the outcome, are people paying for the server and will the slightly less hardcore racers such as myself be able to use it?

I'm not quite sure yet how best to set this up - it's not a public server after all, but I do want to set up some form of access to allow people to be able to set up the races.

How does the dedicated server software work - anyone?

In terms of payment, I'll work out my costs (fuel, bridge money, GT legend license if needed) and then add it up - as long as I get covered and we throw Giles some beer money then that'll be all.

Not much really...

Neil, thanks for your efforts for us!

This would appear to be a useful piece of software - remote control of server by chat...

Yep

That Listener thing is good for admin by us lot so definately include that.

Your best bet might be to just buy a new game - we would cover it.. although you could just take your GTL CD with you, install the lot, then just run the dedicated server (you don't need the CD for that to run, so they can't be that bothered)

You would need a remote admin program like TightVNC or something.
Also you could install Teamspeak as we are looking into that, but you can always to that later via TightVNC.

Feel free to give me a buzz if you've got my number.

Dave.

They are VERY tight on copy protection with this game (it has starforce - a very effective and very difficult to crack copy protection).

So, if the dedicated server runs without wanting the CD, I would say it's safe to assume they designed it like that...

Plus it's not like this is a commercial venture either.

My $0.02.
