OT: Freelance I.T. bod in "no stress" shocker!

As you all probably know, the I.T. sector has been a sticky place to work for some time. Being freelance in I.T. adds an extra frisson of excitement to the mix. But, for the first time in many months, I've finally heaved a sigh of relief.

I've managed to land an ongoing and fairly lucrative support/system fettling contract, a monthly training contract, with another training gig coming on stream early in 2003.

Ditching the TVR cut the outgoings a lot, and my remortgage application has been approved, allowing me to kill debts and move my whole mortgage to a discount scheme. The whole repayment, including additional borrowing, will be the same as I was paying when I first took the original mortgage out. Which is nice.

All in all, compared to six months ago, my fixed monthly outgoings will be halved. I might, if I'm lucky, rediscover the meaning of "relaxation" - which is looking like a novelty.

Ergo, I'm about to go for a Thai curry and a pint , without feeling guilty about the tenner it'll cost me.

Sods law, mind, is about to kick in. There's this person, see, and we sort of seem to end up in bed every time we see each other, but they say they just want to be friends. But the flurry of e-mail, text message, phone calls, etc, seems a little at odds with that assertion. Cue emotional stress to replace the financial strees! Joy!

Ah well, I thought I'd share the good news with you lot: hopefully what I'm experiencing is a sign of the I.T. market looking up to a degree. 'bout bleedin' time an all.

Hopefully, the financial side will mend to the extent that I can afford a cheapo "S" at some point next year, without financial ruin accompanying it As someone else observed, I don't quite feel like I'm part of the gang without a monsterous set of wheels lurking on the driveway. The Tipo is monsterously crap, but that doesn't count.

Finally: any cambridge area peeps up for a pint sometime in the w/c 16th December?

Excellent stuff Marshy, pity the Chim had to go but it's the overall feel-good factor in life that counts without the constant pressure and worry of meeting the monthly outgoings.

I've just ended an 18 month jobless (IT) period, apart from one short lived (but good) permie job which lasted 1 month! Lost my Chimaera in the process, so I know how you feel. Garage seems pointless without a TVR in it!

Here's to future fat times rather than current lean ones!!!

Good to hear that things are looking up - I am up for a beer around the 16th too - I am on holiday from wednesday this week until the 6th next year!!!! Wooohooo
