My car has had a strange feature for a while, where it would judder under very low load (like going through motorway roadworks at 50 in 5th), but pulled really cleanly with the slightest load - including full acceleration. Main dealer unable to fix (but they did change a spark plug - thanks!). Webbs (TVR Bodyshop) did a first rate service and have diagnosed a faulty air flow meter - as proven by me now running fine with their spare meter. Problem is that the old type of meter is no longer available and you have to change to a new type, necessitating a new chip. Any ideas/comments?

I guess the 'old' type you have is a 5AM and they are trying to get you to change to a 20AM? This is a fairly standard upgrade for people with modified engines, so there should be a supply of 'spare' exchange 5AMs available. (I've got one, but you can't have it.) I suggest you give Mark Adams a call, he's probably done more of these conversions than everyone else put together and he may be able to source a 5AM for you.

I have a Lucas 5AM, part number 70388B (the one on my car is a 70410B: I've been trying to found out what, if any, is the difference between them). I ran it on my car when trying to trace a problem and there was no difference. PM me if you're interested in it.

Thanks for the replies. I will pass on the info. Are the connectors the same for both types?

If you speak to Mark I think there is a direct Hitachi replacement for the Lucas 5AM.
