Kitted mine out with Dura, it is good stuff, and cost effective compared to the more commercial offerings. A decent floor covering, painted walls, full lighting is a must. A compressor with air lines run around the garage is luxury. Check out the US sites on this, say pelican parts, those guys know who to put a garage together.

Nel, how is a lift safer than a pit? Surely a car can't fall on you in a pit?
Pits are associated with lots of garage accidents ranging from the dumb (E.g. left uncovered - fell in pit!) to the lethal - these often involve fire. Pits are very good at collecting liquid spillages and heavy flammable vapours like petrol fumes, so instant mechanic BBQ scenario.
How about power ? - You'll need a three phase supply if you do intend on a lift + a decent distribution box with RCD will keep you safe for normal 240v stuff. 30A ish total should be fine unless you're heating it with electric too in which case you'll need to double it ...
Bit nerdy, but how about a connection to the web for your laptop - may be in wireless range, may not be though - how about wired connections run in for future proofing ?
Decent lighting.
Some cross member RSJ's (part of the garage structure) over the engine bay etc that are strong enough to hold an engine lift etc.
Water (hot and cold) + sink.
That's it for now .... :-)

Simple one mate, just put a 2.8 RSR in there. And get a set of heat seeking missiles for the sods who'll try and nick it.
Cheers
Ajit.
In all seriousness, we're building one soon, gonna go for a black and white tiled floor, lots of le mans pix on the walls, a pit, small tv, sound, heating and auto door. Its too easy to go OTT with the garage, end up spending more on it than the kitchen...
