Does anyone know of an aftermarket keyless entry and immobilising system as used by Mercedes and now others?
Before I start to drill holes for external locks and such like I wondered if I had the option of something that would set the car apart a little.

Not sure about keyless starting etc, but for entry to the car, you can esily use solenoids in the doors to release them. I made up my own kit from parts from Maplin to do the door locks, but on the other hand a remote door locking kit would work just as well.

very easy, should cost a lot more than £40 for a two door.

Ditching external door handles and locks in favour of solenoid operation is an old customisers trick and you used to be able to get off the shelf kits complete with remote senders.

Making a system from scratch using scrap yard solenoids linked to an immobilser would be cheaper, but if you want an off the shelf kits check out ads in magazines like Custom Car and Street Rodder.

Just be sure whatever you do is SVA compliant with a 2 stage latch etc. The inspectors seem to home in on anything unusual.

I don't want to ditch the door release or the lathches as these are moulded into the bodyshell and look fine, I just wanted to do away with separate keylocks which would be below the handles and to have a system that would remove the need to put a key in the column and just use a starter button whilst keeping an immobiliser function, any further ideas?

Phantom have introduced starter buttons and had one on at least one of the cars when I did my report, though you still needed the key for the steering column lock etc.

Your best bet might be contacting an auto electrician to see if they can rig something up using components from one of the new cars using the system you're after.

Solenoid operation wouldn't mean having to do away with the latches which you'd need to keep anyway, it'd just mean just using electricity to lock or unlock them as with central locking and enable you to dispense with external locks a la TVR.

I think Lightning looms have gone bust, can't be sure but I haven't been able to get hold of the guys for some time.

Re central door locking kits, I think Europa specialist spares do a four door kit for around £40 - BARGAIN.

I got my solenoid locking doors through the SVA no problem. The double latch is anti burst in an accident, how the operate is irrelevant as far as I am aware.

my friend rigs cars for alrams, he rigged his own with a clifford that has many external functions beside locking the car. "by pressing the side button then key A etc..."

from 30 foot he could unlock the doors (now keyless) start the car, turn on the lights, then turn on the stereo.
ask a local alarm fitter for the full ability of clifford alarms

I always marvelled at the option of turning the lights on for 30 secs, AFTER locking the doors, so it lights up the walk from your drive to your door..
