This is a continuation of the hijacked thread from Phil.

We were talking about home networking, pros and cons of wireless and the new Z-Wave automation technology.

All interesting stuff, keep posting.

Its an RF powered mesh network for device control.

You plug a lamp into a controller which plugs into the wall.

The controller recieves RF signals from an RF modem or an RF remote control and the controller dims or switches the lamp...

The mesh bit comes in because each controller repeats each signal recieved to every other controller the one that recieves the signal can see.

This is where the mix will work. Buy a Centrino pc (as i have) and run wires to a central point for each room, then plug in a simple wifi device to beam it into the room. Easy to do, just need a manufacturer to make a wifi device that looks like a ceiling speaker (now there is an idea!)

Rip an Apple Airport apart!

hang on, I've got loads here, I'll split one open. Saying that, as long as the void is sufficient, why not just mount it in a recess with a grill?

You've got me thinking now for when I re-do the living room this year!

Mate, its allows you to turn lights on and off all over the home from the comfort of your sofa, wirelessly too, so no doubt you'll have it soon...

Why didn't you say that !

Where can I get one?

Actually I was looking at some remote sensor lighting for Cinema type stuff a while back. Was quite expensive though.

Drop me a line, depending on what the solution you require is for your cinema there is almost certaintly something at a pallatable cost that will do what you need.
