Help! ECU Reconditioners
Discussion
Help needed again please guys
Does anyone know where I might get my Main ECU checked and mended?
It is the Lucas unit from my 1989 350i which, as previously posted,
has been causing rough running when the engine is cold and upto
15 miles into a journey. This morning we swapped it with Taff_o's ECU
and my car ran smoothly again, so we have now identified where the problem is.
I am told that Lucas used to have full test and recondition facilities
Does anyone know is someone took these over?
Does anyone know of a new unit that may be for sale?
Thx in anticipation

Might not be as bad as you think, it may just need a resolder job. Quite a few of us can do that for you
So do they dry out Wedg1e ?? can anyone whip the back off and stick a soldering iron in or is it a bit more technical ??
I wouldn't recommend it if you can't tell a bad solder joint from a good one! Examine the PCB with a magnifying glass, you'll soon spot the bad joints (if any).
'Proper' reconditioning would include desoldering the entire boards and resoldering with modern solder, not to mention replacing all capacitors and any out-of tolerance resistors.
Thanks for all these replies
It gives me a great place to get started
I am trying to get this done while "Yasmin" is in the garage
having a roll bar fitted this week, (and I am getting
Wedge withdrawal symptoms already!!!!)
Cheers all for your help
