what would this country be like now ?

Looking at the way the country is today, would we be in a better position after all the dust had settled if Hitler had achieved his goal?

A few things that could have been different...

OUR FLAG MIGHT LOOK LIKE THIS..

OUR STAMPS COULD LOOK LIKE THIS..

OUR TV MIGHT BE BROADCASTING THIS..

I'm sure there's a film (the name of which I can't remember just now, which is quite annoying) which is based in a post-WW2 setting where the Nazis won. There are things like stealth bombers with swastikas on them. Rutger Hauer might be in it.

Have just checked and Rutger Hauer is in it. It's called Fatherland.

That is facinating and funny at the same time

Seriously though, would we have the same levels of crime, chav culture, unemployment spongers?

I suspect not.

And of course there would be no illegal immigrants.........but that is getting a bit to political.

There would be tremendous national pride, or pride in the United Reich of Europe and we would be part of a superpower that would be keeping the USA 'honest' much as the old USSR did. Then again, there might be any number of politcal migrants from Europe trying to cross the Atlantic in rowing boats akin to the migrants found in the backs of trucks here now.

Does beg the question, doesn't it.

If the Nazis had won, there might have been absolute order in this part of the world.

Given Hitler's and the Nazi's main dislikes, I suppose there would not be too many of these around in the UK: Jews, Jesuits, Communists, Gypsies, Freemasons, mentally retarded, disabled from birth, homosexuals. There may be more but it doesn't leave too many!

It would be a very different world to the one we know and love.

Just so everyone is clear - life under Nazi tyranny would not be somehow better or even safer.

As time progressed, the Nazi Government would either have had to become even more tyrannical to maintain control, or would have collapsed as a reuslt of insurrection.

If the former, then expect increased public executions, secret police calls in the night, people disappearing, total media control, total propoganda, little opportunities for free will - to choose a career, to travel where you wanted to, to marry who you wished etc etc.

In case anyone is beginning to think it might have somehow been better - you are perhaps more delusional than anyone I have ever met. Life would have been an utter nightmare under Nazi control.

Perhaps the nanny/politically correct state control of everything would have been the replaced by death squads, informers etc. in fact we could have been Argentina in the 1980's.

Not quite sure which is worse.......

I think it stands to reason it would have taken a similar route as communism did, and actually become slightly more liberal over time. Just look at China as an example, its actually slightly capitalist now.

There is no way the regime as it existed in the '30s and '40s could possibly have survived the test of time.

It may not have happened here at all. The final solution, in its ultimate form, took the form of avenging the ever increasing defeats inflicted on the Reich on those you mention. Without those later defeats they might have given up once the main supposed enemies had been dealt with.

I think I'm right in recalling that the Jewish issue was nicely sidestepped in Denmark when their king wore a yellow star as a gesture of national solidarity. Result, the Nazis backed down and the Danish Jews breathed a sigh of relief.

Hitler initially saw Britain as a possible alli against Russia and continued to hold hopes of a truce or of forcing an armistice with Britain for a long time.

Joining the axis would have meant fighting Russia though.

Regarding Russia, Hitler could easily have won if he had accepted the cheering crowds who greeted his armies in the Ukraine as allies and not tried to turn them into slaves. Oddly the Russians, who had come to hate the Communists, initially welcomed the Axis powers as liberators!
