I joked last year about bad things happening to our dogs whilst my parents were away.

Within days of my parents getting back the eldest (the mum) was diagnosed with a terminal cancer and was put down 6 weeks later. The dog we knew had gone but it was still a terrible thing watching her go.

However, there were suspicions that one of the other three at the time was also in trouble. But you don't focus on them when its not obvious and you are watching the first dog pass on. Anyway, what were the chances of two dogs being terminally ill with different things?

Apparently quite high it seems. So within the next hour we will of lost two of our three dogs in 4 months.

As much as I've been level headed about Iddy's condition (he was called Iddy because he was tiny when he was born - he turned into a huge rough collie), this afternoon is the bit where i lose it.

Absolutely gutted.

Sorry to hear that. Collies are great dogs, better than any alarm clock I've ever owned.

Sorry to hear that. Ours had to be put down due to cancer and I cried like a baby on the way back from the vet.

Not the nicest thing to have to do, but if you can stick with Iddy until he's gone and for his sake keep it together until then. There's no shame in losing it afterwards. Good luck.

Mate, got to be the worst luck ever. Sorry to hear about that. I'll raise a glass to him tonight.

Very sad to hear your upsetting news.

Try to get comfort in the knowledge of all the good times and pleasure Iddy has had with your family and no doubt that if you were a dog you would have wanted to walk in his paws.

I know that feeling. I had to bury one of my cats after it was run over.

Sorry to hear that, gutting, I know.
Just remember the good times, and keep those thoughts in ya head. Mine still makes me smile today, and she died about 10 years ago!

I held my mums dog (a collie called Sadie) whilst she was put to sleep.

I feel for you.

Sorry to hear that, keep ya chin up and remember all the good times, and that you wouldn't want him to suffer.

Also, there's no shame in having the waterworks afterwards, I had my old dog put down in September and lost it in the waiting room - made me feel a bit better.

I also found getting a new dog fairly soon afterwards helped too.

Have a or two tonight and remember tomorrow will be better.

I know that feeling, we lost one of our two back in November, one day he's running around like a puppy, next day his back legs have packed up due to his spine giving up.....my poor fiancee had to take him to the vets for the final time without my support as I was 100 miles away at the time.......

Really hope you get through things okay......I try to think of doggy heaven with all the dogs running in a summer meadow, (bit like the dog food advert!)

Very sorry to hear about this Tinman. I lost a pet recently and feel for you and your family. Be strong for Iddy when the time comes, and have a drink to all the good times later.

I am so sorry to hear that. It is the hardest thing to do for the family member.
I have done it a few times and it never gets easier regardless of what in your heart you know is right.

sad day.
