Ok its a bit weird this one but cruising along at anything from 40-80+ i'm getting a whirring noise from the backend, It sounds a bit like a wheel bearing but i'm assured that its not, the cars done 26k miles, could it be anything to do with gearbox or diff..... Answers on a postcard please

Difficult to say without actually hearing the noise. Do you get the noise in all gears or just one ? If all, then it's unlikely to be the transmission. I would start by checking the the diff. Check and maybe change the diff oil - make sure you use th ecorrect stuff and any required LSD additives. Whilst under the car, check th etransmission oil level as well. Also, stupid as it sounds, check carefully underneath for anything that may have come loose and be rubbing somewhere, especially at speed, when the airflow can displace something that appears normal at rest.

I'm not a real Vette teccy, but it might be worth checking where the exhaust goes over the drive shafts at the rear for any tell tale marks. Maybe as the car goes quicker it sits a little lower at the back, moving the exhaust into closer proximity to the UJ's. Apparantly, this is quite popular with aftermarket sports exhausts - my Vette had a little problem with this when I first bought it.

Hope it's nothing expensive....
