Quick camera warning for the Brighton PH's
Discussion
A while ago there was a news story saying Brighton & Hove Council were going to spend lots of money on shiny new cameras, including one on Coldean Lane. Well that one's up now, it's pointing down Coldean Lane near the primary school (the first one I've seen near yards of a school, even if this one is after the school), so watch out as it's a steep hill and only a 40 limit.

Exactly where we want to see them.
I also thought that the newer digital ones could superimpose lines onto the final picture.
I'm just curious as to whether or not its working/legal etc. had to go past it 5-6 times at the weekend, I knew it was there and wasn't speeding, come to think about it Ive never seen that one flash in all the times I've been past.

All ya have to do is slow down in the vicinity of "school" signs.
Looks like the propagandas working on you Lucozade.
Cameras are not a goddam cure all.
It isn't a new camera, it would appear to have been resited from another location. The camera will not be active until the hatch lines are in place...vis a vis the camera in Falmer Road, Woodingdean which has recently been moved up the road.
And for once I think this camera has been put in the right place - near a school.
its going operational:
Rise in speed cameras

Speed cameras are being installed at 18 accident blackspots in a bid to reduce road deaths.
The first camera, at Coldean Lane, Brighton, is due to start operating next week while eight sites in East Sussex and nine in West Sussex are earmarked for the devices.
The cameras will be painted bright yellow and clearly sign-posted to meet new guidelines that state they should not be hidden to catch out motorists.
The Sussex Safety Camera Partnership was given the go ahead to fit the cameras, in addition to the 67 already operating, by the Government.
The partnership, which includes Sussex Police, Brighton and Hove City Council and East and West Sussex County Councils, will fund the cameras through fines.
It has applied for permission to fit another 24 in the 2003/04 financial year.
East Sussex County Council environment councillor Tony Reid said pilot projects elsewhere in the country had shown speed cameras cut accidents.
He said: "My aim is to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads and safety cameras play a major part in that.
"This scheme seeks to encourage more responsible behaviour on the roads."
Of the 67 cameras already operating, 38 are at fixed sites, 26 are at red lights and there are two mobile units.
New East Sussex sites are: the A27 at the Ashcombe roundabout; the A27 at Selmeston; the A281 at Lower Beeding; the A259 at Telscombe Cliffs; London Road, Uckfield; Eversfield Place, Hastings; Eastbourne Road, Halland; and Kings Drive, Eastbourne.
New West Sussex sites are: the A27 at Hammerpot; the A24 at Dial Post; the A24 at Knepp Castle; the A29 at Bognor; Offington Lane, Worthing; Station Road, Rustington; Brighton Road, Horsham; and two on Brighton Road, Shoreham.
Details of all sites are published on the partnership's web site at: www.sussexsafetycam eras.gov.uk

It's not that good a place to put it, it's right where the Brighton uni students cross the road to get from a bus stop to their halls of residence, so what do people pay more attention to...
And why do a lot of drivers insist at driving 30 past it? It's in a 40 limit! (at least I hope it is).
