I went out with a girl back in 1972 and we went baby sitting at Freds house,he was dressed up ready to go out and i was looking at his back garden, he said "come on i`ll show you round".
I remember seeing an old motorbike in a shed, eventually his misses shouted to him "are we going out or not".

Diamond geezer even then.

I most certainly did, Fredrick.

Thank you very much indeed.

It genuinely grieved him that he played such a significant role in the demolition of some impressive industrial architecture.

He was a great ambassador for the preservation of industrial relics and the world is far poorer for his passing.

its amazing looking at film of him working now, you see him up the top of some chimney, perched on a dodgy looking scaffold plank, with not a safety rope or harness in sight!

He used to make a yearly appearance at our local steam fair.
neither liked or disliked him .
He was a character though.....
and for that he has my admiration and respect

From his TV I always liked the bloke.

Sadly I know someone who had the misfortune to have domestic dealing wih him. He was, by all accounts, a complete w*nker in every respect.

He's been on UKTV history loads recently, telling loads of stories about crashing steamrollers etc. Trying really hard with his pronunciation for TV He's bloody brilliant.

Yeah it's crazy when you think about it. These days they evacuate the surrounding area and everything has to be done by the book. Fred just rocks up with a box of matches and a few old tires - pure genius!
