an embarasing problem

thought i would take the Griff out earlier and when a friend got out of the car the passanger door wouldnt shut, the lock mechanism wasnt shutting it and i had to drive home with a cable holding my door in place, upon getting home i moved the handle around a bit to check the cable and pushed the silver object to open the door a few times and it worked, it was very embarasing having to drive home with a cable openly holding the door shut though!!!!!.
anyone else suffered from this?, it seems fine now but im worried it might happen again, or should i just ban passengers?

Have the allen key headed bolts come loose in the door shut? (by the striker) This is a regular event & causes intermittent shutting problems.

Yep had the same sort of thing happen over the New Year when the car went to Manchester. The internal cable had frozen so when I opened the door for the GF I did it from the outside. Went to Halford to get a new radio, opened the passenger door and lo and behold it wouldn't shut. Looked like a right muppet trying to righ up a way of getting it to shut in the car park.

The door release handle may not have sprung back properly, if they stay out a bit then this will do the same. Push the release handle back to its return position (was at petrol station last weekend, trying many times to close the door and then discovered this, pushed back the handle and it closed 1st time)
