Having seen speed yellows 240r this weekend had a tip off that this car was comming on the market. I think its the one that spent a bit of time at westovers recently so the price may be a little optimistic. I dont care i think that it looks the nuts.

www.pistonheads.com/sales/62669.htm

Asked Mrs Just1 if we can get it, but if i do apparently i will be sleeping in it in the garage.

Oh well!!

I wonder if you could do a look a like exige with the wheels and retrimmed performance pack???

looks awfully like a lightly modified Exige to me...in fact is like telling the difference between a Porker C4 and C4S...only the geeks would know

just get a used black Exige

Yep, it isn't worth the money IMHO, the 240R has turned out to be underwhelming as far as I can ascertain. Consistently fails to match the quoted performance when independently tested and is no faster round the track than a Boxster S despite the paper figures on power to weight etc.

Whereas the NA exige has always been marvelled at for punching above it's weight, the opposite seems to be true for the 240R. It seems that it really needs to have 280-300 bhp and be a tad lighter.

If I baught it I would be sleeping in the car. Mrs Just1 would actually be doing you a favour. Go on buy it.

If I know your fair lady she would re arrange how your limbs are attached then I would be the only one who could drive it.

Good plan - no major drawbacks

Its a very, very nice car...and the 240R is rare and I like black...yummie but that price would scare me off! when it was 30.000,- then I would buy but the difference is to big compared with a "standard" Exige.
And on the picture's it looks almost to smooth? maybe they have to fill the wheelarces? a bit more? or is that look that way because of the bling wheels instead of black?
But...I would not complain when that car stood in my garage I love it...

and! for that money you could also have this and save you a lot money.....

I am hopefully getting my Cup 240 with black wheels and prefer the all black interior of the Cup. think the yellow & black is just a bit, well tacky (sorry if anyone disagrees)

After reading all the posts that were down on the 240R (doesn't seem anyone really has a good word for them on here) I bit the bullet and went for a long test drive in the car. Not sure how many of you have actually driven the car before passing comment on it, but swopping from an S2 performance it is a revelation, feels so much more planted, you have to option to drive swiftly without having to be going for it as the power is now very linear, the two way Olins are just stunning in they way they control the body and the wider wheels give a slightly more meaty feel to the car.

I didn't buy the car to back to back with Boxster 'S' as they are SO dull to drive and having just swopped from a 996 GT2 CS I can tell you that the car is nothing like as slow as you all seem to beleive it is. Getting it off the line cleanly is not that easy as it will spin the rears in 1st and 2nd but it does just pull like a train from 4K to the redline, completely different to the standard car.

As for all the comments about weight, how many cars have been weighed on here? When I used to race loads my S1 Exige was about 100 kg over the Lotus offical figure.... the 240R is weighed with all the options, against an S2 exige base car without any options it is not a huge gain for all the extra bits and pieces fitted...

I agree the initial price was high, but that is because it is not line built, if you took a standard car to a tuner and got them to fit all the parts I doubt you'd get much change either, but at the £38 ish they are now for nearly new cars against £34 for a new Exige with perf pack it looks great value to me. The Cup 240 at £48ish is another thing though.... glup....

I'm not trying to defend my decision, but I do find it sad how the car gets put down here, Lotus have done a great job and built a great all round package for less than a Noble or TVR. (Yes I have owned and tracked both....).

Having seen Speedyellow's, all I would say is that from an astehtics perspective, its gorgeous.
As to weight gain, the only extra wight I can think of over an S2 Exige with the same options, would be the Supercharger and Intercooler. So an increase of 25-30% in power for a subtantailly lower percentage increase in weight seems to be good, not bad.

I like it too! but I can't pay a new one, I only buy second hand(few months>>years old)
Sadly only 1 is in the Netherlands...
Thats why I go for the other option, the Exige Cup 240(but I still have to wait??)
So I love them...and I think most of us do!! but only the big price difference when new and still second hand is huge, a 2005 Exige cost 27.000,- the 240R 39.000,-its might be a fare price since you get a lot goodies! but thats still a lot of money you got to have in the pocked
So most of us like to have one for the price of a 111R
I think at least thats what I choose, if we could get one for free and we've had to make a choice between the; 111R, Exige, Exige Cup, 240R al in the same black(my favorit) color, everyone would take the 240R at home, I know I would!

completely agree with speedyellow the 240R deserves all the enthusiastic comments it received from the press. It is in fact an extraordinary (both in common and ethimologic sense) piece of engineering, beyond its specsheet and surely it is far more than the sum of its components. I don't know (and anyway I don't care) why some people put down this car; even an italian dealer I spoke with months ago was telling me the car "wasn't good, was not as fast as a noble, the supercharger was fragile etc etc etc." and all this kind of stupid or false comments. The fact is that the 240R is factually a fantastic car, and no one can prove the opposite without telling any lie.
The price: it's pricy, in fact; but all who have a sportbike know how much you have to pay to fit one single Ohlins suspension on the rear. So, this car has four, completely adjustable. And has the supercharger, the accusump, light wheels and so on. Try to buy and fit all of that by yourself and then look at what you spent. Got it?
Colours choice: this was in fact the only thing I didn't like. But I don't want to criticise Lotus' choice: it was a limited series car, and something "special" had to be done with aesthetics; they chose to honour their tradition, and that's not bad. Since I don't like solid yellow at all, I simply had mine resprayed in mat black, and the interior retrimmed in two different shades of black leather. Next I will buy standard Exige S2 wheels and have them resprayed in a custom colour, and all will be in the right place for me
Performance and confrontations with ther cars: I don't want to say anything about this, whoever has a functioning neuron and has driven the car knows just everything there is to know about it. Anyway, when it's about confronting two cars, you have to consider who drives them. I dont' think that everyone out there can use all of the 240R potential, on the track or on the road. Owning a Lotus, and even more a "special" Lotus, is not at all something about having 1 bhp more than the others, 1 lb less than other models or 0.1 sec less in a track lap than all other sportscars. These are futile things I prefer to leave to those buying cars just to show off with friends and people all around.
Only 50 240R have been made. No others will be ever made. My personal advice is: if you know what driving really means, if you love it more than all other stupid things about cars, if you have the possibility... go and buy one as soon as you find it

All of the above is just MVHO... for what's worth. Cheerz

Speedyellow - top man in my opinion for your choice the 240R, it looks a great package to me

I've not posted too much in my time on Pistonheads - but I log in most days - there are a few people on here who always seem to dismiss virtually everything that Lotus produce now - most of them seem to be S1 owners who bang on about how light there cars are and their Elise's are the original and therefore the best etc etc.

Yes, the S1 Elise and Exige were superb cars and without them Lotus would have probably folded long ago.

Of course we all love our cars and we all have a valid opinion but I find this 'down attitude' to new Lotus products slightly tedious and even more apparant over on SELOC where some seem to think all S2 derivatives are 'gay' or the owners are, which to be honest I find a little childish.

Anyway rant over, I'll probably get flamed for this now!!

For the record chap I'd have a 240R tomorrow if funds allowed.
