Cerb Underheating

Thought I'd post this, I travel about 16 miles to work each morning, and in these cold mornings, although the car gets up to water temp in about five miles, the oil pressure is taking much longer to follow on, coupled with the engine sounding cold for much longer and now (according to my ears) the whole journey to work is becoming a no-go for fun speed.

I just wondered if any Cerb owners had tried covering their radiator, or perhaps their oil cooler to improve cold days?

covering the oil cooler would be a big improvement .. it'll still get nowhere near what it should be, but at elast it'll be warmer than it is at the moment...

I have almost all the front of my V8S blocked off right now, only the small slit above the number plate allows air into the engine bay. my oil still never gets off the rest stop unless stopped in traffic

I am with you on this.

My daily trip is over 90 miles. As I have no oil temp guage I use the pressure to give some sort of indication as to the stae of the oil. When the car is used in cold weather I never thrash it, even after an extended warm up period.

I have also noticed a slight increase in the time it takes for the oil pressure to get off the stop on the first start of the morning. In the summer its about .5 of a second and the winter maybe .8-1.0 sec?

The oild pressure also behaves in odd ways. Normal cold idle its always 75-80psi, but cold soack and it seems to be 60-65psi. Within 5 mins its back to normal. I had a thought od changinf to a thinner oil grade at the last change, for winter, but I dismissed the idea.

Has anyone tried plumbing in a thermostat for the oil cooler? its a bit poor if its on all the time

Not used my car for the last few days, but can confirm that unless you are stationary or crawling along in traffic the oil temperature will never get up to operating temp.

If you are moving along the oil temp will sit at around 50 degrees, probably even less over the last couple of days. This is with a thermostat on the oil cooler, so I would expect a standard cerb would run even cooler.

Agreed. I personally use the Mobil 1 Motorsport oil (15W50), which is a bit thicker, so I exepect this takes a bit longer to get up to pressure in the cold.

I've thought about going to vanilla Mobil 1 for the winter and back to the other for the summer. Maybe next year...

Hi I'm looking to add an oil thermostat thought one of these would be good, probably be able to mount an oil temp gauge in the housing as well. Anybody had experience with these??? Not sure about using the push-on connectors, I would probably get new hoses made up.
