Bought a new camera!
Discussion
Well - I did it. I've just bought a D70s, it'll be here tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help on my thread comparing the three models. Can I join the Clud now?
And if anyone has any good advice on what extras to buy, please let me know. What would be a good lens for taking pics of cars on track?

Excellent choice.
May I reccommend:
Big CF card
Nikkor 70-300 ED
...and a bottle of 1993 verve cliquot to round things off.

And what about filters?
UV for general purpose protection, circular polariser for sunny days if you want to have nice blue skies and reduce reflections, gradual neutral density if bright skies bother you (though that would need to be part of a square set-up like Cokin)... I'd start with the UV and see how your needs develop.
For effects, use PS.
I get all my filters on eBay - much cheaper than shops.

I found a right angle view finder very handy for low shots, and tripod shots, where the camera is about chest height. About £160 quid I think.......
Thanks Dave! My Stiffycat now has pride of place on the mantlepiece. All I need now is for the camera to arrive. I can hardly wait to get my mitts on it! I hope Citylink don't pull their usual stunt of leaving a card without bothering to check first whether I'm in...
Thanks everybody for the advice on what kit to get. I was thinking of the Manfrotto tripod, actually. And a shedload of filters. And at least four lenses. And a nice big case to put it all in. And...
I wonder why I've never managed to develop any nice, inexpensive hobbies?

Even though i'm a Canon owner, i'll recommend the manfrotto 190 tripod
You say that as if Canon made tripods!
! Apologies for still being up but I have an excuse; I'm still partly on NZ time...

Know how you feel... to be a real groupie you need to photograph your new camera and post it on PH

Flower pressing?

Really? Okay then, if you insist. Should I at least take it out of its box first?

Flower pressing?? Me?! No. Much raising of eyebrows. And not stamp collecting either.

.... and a yellow for your B&W's

Well done
that Girl!
...and then a decent one is even better. Recent talk round here has been to look at the Manfrotto range? 055?
Filters - debateable one.
With digital, I reckon polariser (circular not
linear) is the only one you'll benefit from normally. I occassionally have a play with an IR too. Everything else is just going to give you two extra layers of air/glass interface to muck up a nice image and can be tackled in post processing anyway.

What tripod would you recommend? And what about filters?
