Gearbox choice - yes I know, done to death...but!

I know some answers are in the FAQ but after ploughing all through many many convoluted threads regarding this item,with relevent and irrelevent posts in each, it is often quite difficult to extract any real conclusions, so I felt it appropriate to suggest that the most learned of you put together a series of summaries if poss, that would greatly help the 'damned' try to extract a concensus on various topics, such as ...

1. To Getrag or not to Getrag...that is the question?
2. What version best suits and from what Porche type
3. Gearing
4. Longlevity
5. Where from (suggestions)
6. Back to the good old G50?

etc etc.

Keith, as I said offline:

1. Entirely personal choice. Getrag has 6 gears and cable shift, but G50 is rock solid (too) and also available centre, or right side shift. Linkage is probably slightly less smooth than the Getrag but if you lube it up and install it right, it works a charm. Getrag will cost you a fair premium 2nd hand and a huge one new.

2. I would say look for an LSD version of either. Avoid the short geared versions. Get a short-tail and make sure it's not the old cable clutch style.

3. See 2.

4. As I said, pretty indestructable - even with way over 600hp

5. Decent breakers, factory, classifieds

6. 'Nowt wrong with the G50. Great 'box for the Ultima.

I went the G50/52 from PowerhausII. They come standard with a bigger CWP and LSD.
I highly recommend Roger as he has been extremely patient with all my questions (Many)
and I believe he has done many Ultima installs.
I liked the Getrag but have to stick with what I could find and afford
