I don't normally read What Car magazine that much, but it's often in the office and I review quite a lot of different car mags during work.

Does anybody else wonder where they're coming from? I've read quite a few reviews and been a bit puzzled about their opinions and ideas, which often seem a bit erratic in comparison to the other journalists on the same cars.

For example I read the New Honda Civic review a few issues back, I was expecting them to go a bit off on the suspension set up, the stiff ride, and maybe the dash, certinly the petrol unit isn't as refined as the diesel, but they seemed to be way over the top - daming it on almost every level, I thought a bit unfair, on what I see as a really bold and interesting car inspite of it's few short falls.

The car awards issue has some questionable opinions too, is the Skoda Vr-what-me-call-it really better than the Ford (asbo) Focus ST for e.g.? (amoung others)

I guess the same could be said of most mags, but this title really stood out to me.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I like Car too, Evo is my night time reading of choice, but then I'm more of a 'drivers car' obssesive, than all around petrol junky (although not by much lol). Glad you also thought they were abit harsh with their review of the Civic too, I think the guy from Sniff Petrol agrees with you on the space-age-ness though in his "10 MOTORING MUST-DOs FOR 2006":

They'll think you're from the future and make you some sort of God. Or burn you.
