Finished work this morning and drove home only to notice that the engine management light had stayed on. There was no problem before i parked up last night just after it had been left in the cold. Does this have to go to a lotus garage or could any garage tell me what the problem is, its just that the nearest garage is quite a while from me?

If the MIL is perminantely on, then it has detected an error (Possibly a misfire) which it has considered something o be looked at, but not something critical.

If it starts flashing, stop as soon as you can as it is something that is critical.

I beleive that the diagnosis has to be done by a Lotus dealer, however not 100% certain of that.

It stores the code and can be read at anytime. Can be very minor e.g. bit of oil surge from hard cornering etc.

Should reset after 4 restarts.... if it doesn't (or does it again) then head to the dealer.

This is normal for me after about 3 months, as in my case (and maybe yours) a steady MIL light is to do with the emmisions, (Only applies to the S2...i think, someone help here).

But In my case I run with a cat by pass pipe, should really get some resistors fitted, but then i've got no excuses to visit the lotus dealer and look at the new brum brums

If you have not played with your exit gases then get it checked out when you can & put your mind at rest, but if the MIL is flashing then Stop.

An OBDII reader should tell you the fault code.

I have just had exactly the same problem - Got a 111s 2005 used daily. last night it was fine, then this morning the EML light came on - left it and took the wifes car (typical ford KA!!) . The engine seemed fine although it is low on fuel, and i noticed it needed a top for the radiator. Called lotus dealer and they said bring it in and they put it on the computer to find the fault. Any new what was wrong with yours??

Cheers AL
