Hi,

Anybody out there tell me how hot it gets in the cabin without air con?

Worse than a Chimaera witout A/C and roof on in the summer?

A good negotiating point on possible purchase perhaps?

Cheers,

Too hot to consider a Cerbera without Aircon unless you live in Alaska.

As long as your on the move - a Cerb without air-con isn't too bad. Sitting in traffic, it goes get a bit warm though !

Exocet (of Ratpac fame)has a 96 Cerb without air-con, and I went to Duxford in it & it was warm, but not unbearalbe....

Must admit there were only a few times over the summer when I wish I had a/c, but now we are having some proper british weather (freezing bloody cold!!) a/c is the last thing on my mind. The only reason I would have a/c, is that it would make the car easier to sell, but that aint happening any time soon, so no worries!!

Cheers for the replies.

Will bear this in mind when it comes to haggling time though!

Out of interest, if you're ever thinking of having it retro-fitted in a Cerbera, its a very big job. Had my Tuscan done at teh factory, they said easy and straight forward, but doing the air-con on a Cerbera was a major job. Worth checking with them first if you were considering a 2nd hand Cerbera and thinking about a retro-fit.

Never bothered turning mine on for the last 2 summers and didn't miss it. And anyone that used a lame excuse like that to haggle would NOT be buying my car.

At the risk of being 's advocate here if your AC hasn't been on in 2 yrs the chances are that it doesn't work anyway (seals drying out etc.) and that would be a point for haggling IMHO anyway. Unless you have run it evey few weeks to keep things in working order?...

If I WAS to sell - and I am not thinking of it at the moment - Why do you assume that I would be dishonest enough not to a) give a full and accurate disclosure of the vehicle's condition and b) ensure that any remdial work was either carried out pre-sale or reflected in the price?

Sorry, but air-con is probably one of the easiest systems on the Cerbera to figure out if its working or not and if it has been maintained properly. Anyone not stating that a known air-con defect existed would also not be getting me as a customer.

octane junkie please step off your self-righteous I did not say/imply/infer or offer as conjecture the fact that you were dishonest or that your car was for sale - try reading without a closed mind. My point was this and only this: if the a/c system hadn't been working on a car that was for sale the buyer could use this as a point to haggle on for a price reduction. Whether the seller would agree to this or resolve it prior to selling wasn't mentioned.

Hand bags at dawn guys ?

Come on - this is supposed to be helpful advise, and no one has accoused anyone of anything ! D_drinks was just stating that if it hadn't been used for 2 years it won't work very well (as I know all to well, our car hadn't been used for about 12 months when we bought it, and the turning the air-con on, actually made the cabin warmer !). D_drinks was just stating an oppinion on air-con/buying a car - not accusing you of anything !

Chill out octane_juncie !

All Cerbs are different but IMHO Air Con is essential.
My car gets hot in the cabin without it whether moving or not.

So true, which is why I'm not in it!! d_drinks is of course right - and I would do the same if I found a car I was interested in had un-mentioned defects.

On a more helpful note (I hope) one of the probs with the 4.5 (at least) air-con is the quality of the pipes attached to the compressor, which often crack on the bends - they're an alloy construction and difficult to weld. Should knock a few quid of the price?

You should also be aware that the heating is not that efficient. During the cold months (that's September thru' May !!) I have to tape off the cold air vent under the dash board or risk frost-bite in my right leg because the vent seal is inadequate at (ahem) "motorway" speeds... and that's after sealing all the pipes with silicon.
